Woah, this is blowing up a bit, thanks everyone for stopping by. A couple frequently mentioned comments I want to address:
- Will I release the code? Definitely no. As I mention in the video this was a fun experiment/proof of concept, but to be clear: you shouldn't do this yourself, this is not a serious alternative to real cloud storage.
- You should back up your data, what if Discord removes it!! I have it all backed up with real storage solutions, and I'm fully prepared for Discord to purge all my data. Especially with this video doing well, I'm expecting it to vanish at some point :)
The secret file secret is a pretty cool secret.
Ответитьwhy would you give every piece of your personal data to discord?????
ОтветитьDESERVED SUBCRIBE!!! Amazing work, you made me rethink my cloud storage provider :P
ОтветитьSicccc
ОтветитьWhy nobody thought about Telegram? lol
ОтветитьDO NOT DO THIS, DISCORD SAVES ALL DATA AND CHINA HAS A LARGE STAKE IN IT.
Ответитьme who changed the .docx to .mp4 simply by renaming it🗿
ОтветитьYour data is now owned by the chinese government.
Ответитьwhat about telegram ?
ОтветитьThis guy's going to be real confused when all his data starts mysteriously disappearing in about a years time
ОтветитьI used to save my files in facebook. Well, im sure discord wouldnt turn into facebook. Right?
ОтветитьOr you can create a 2nd google account...
Ответитьbro i got like 12 discord server where i am alone just to save ideas and stuff
Ответитьever thought of just creating a new gmail acounr, then a new drive acount?
ОтветитьWonder how discord will go with the temporarily file system, it might break a lot of stuff
(it definitely will ruin game mod communities)
What a mad lad
ОтветитьGood job! Now the devs will try to remove it.
ОтветитьPiracy site speeds lmao
Ответитьhmm i guess its not really a hack since you still require a db to store related key for each data chunks. Might as well create another google account. But either way nice proof of concept.
ОтветитьMe on my way to make the next megaupload
ОтветитьWhy not run the node server locally?
ОтветитьI store all my screenshots, drop box links accosiated with random links, website links, playlist links, video links, clips, useful text files of research I've done on a discord server that's fully private, it's not too bad for a somewhat Internet databank I've preccured of websites I've browsed over the years
Ответитьthis needs to be gatekept
ОтветитьDefinitely not something to rely on. But a fun project nontheless. I do this to a much lesser extent. I send my geogebra files there, cause it's easy to save there. I have separate backups of some of the important things, though.
ОтветитьProblem with Discord is that they do occasionally delete random data and attachments that have been uploaded in the past. The upload will expire and you will lose all of your data uploaded bit by bit.
ОтветитьDon’t give them ideas, or they will make this feature called DIscord Drive tommorrow, and will start taking money from you for sending files
ОтветитьThe kind of ideas i like ^^
Ответитьdude people have been using telegram for this purpose for years
Ответитьits a nice PoC, but ... i see where this is going, but what you came up with really is not that feasible. no folder structure, questionable encryption, ineffective use of resources (having to set up a server for this), still a lot of manual stuff to do for the end user.
like, if you got to a point where your code basically turns discord into a real FTP-Server (i.e. you can connect to your own local server via ftp:// and it handles filing and read/write ops on discord), things would start to get very interesting. having to dig up files by filename, not so much. Backing up a few different folders would require you to manually curate those folders for duplicate filenames. Getting back your files also requires filenames...
In the end, i feel like the result you got is just barely better than just using 7-zip manually, making 25mb parts of files with it, applying known good password-based-encryption on the way, and then drag-and-dropping those files in a private discord. after all, with the slow up- and download, its not like using discord for multiple gigabyte files is really feasible anyway.
Quit snitching bro
Ответитьtelegram
ОтветитьHey, can you pin my comment? It never happened.
Ответитьdid i just spend 5 minutes of my life to get rick rolled?
ОтветитьBASED
ОтветитьIm doing this with telegram since 2 years
Ответитьtelegram
ОтветитьYou could also encrypt the text in like some key encryption algorithm and then discord can't source open data to find you if you did care
ОтветитьGood luck finding that one file among 3000+ other files that can't be categorized on Discord.
ОтветитьTelegram app is good for storage too.
ОтветитьI've noticed that files posted years ago don't exist anymore. Other projects like this one exist, but don't rely on them.
just self-host nextcloud or something
why not to use telegram? :DDDDDDDDDDDDD
