I actually hear a similarity in the melody of this song to the old standard 1950s "You Belong to Me" by Jo Stafford but no real similarity in melody to Mariah Carey's song. Lyrically, the theme is very similar, but s lawsuit about it is a real stretch at thr most.

What I don’t understand about this lawsuit is that why do it now? Mariah’s song is literally 30 years old and only now they notice? I think it’s just a money grab because now the song gets publicity as everyone is running to listen to it now to identity any similarities.

Damn, this is really good. Lots of big frizzy hair makes this video soooo 80s haha, I love it. I dont think Carey's song is a ripoff though, this is nothing like it in sound or lyrics. The experience of listening to this is way different than Carey's song and that's the most important thing in copyright lawsuits in my opinion. This song and that song appeal to such different ears and moods that neither could replace the other. The concept of wanting someone for christmas is kind of a no-brainer anyway, christmas has always had a romantic vibe to it.
