Last year, Google Drive lost some data for a significant subset of users. This made me think of your video.
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьIt is Easy for Japanese to understand
ОтветитьComment: Wow, this video really got me thinking about the importance of having a reliable backup power source, especially when it comes to family camping trips. The Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series seems like a fantastic option with its massive capacity, fast recharging, and waterproof technology. Definitely something to consider for anyone who values quality family time in the great outdoors.
ОтветитьI use the 3-2-1 Dropbox rule. 3 macs in sync, 2 SSD & cloud storage, 1 offside in the cloud.
Ответитьa really important video and a must watch, i wish i saw this video in 2016 - 2017 and that i could backup our family photos and videos from my old lenovo laptop, it is had a 100gb partition of family photos and videos that i accidentally got foramted when i tried to do something in the disk managmant with the hard drive in windows, and it is happend in 2017 but sadly most of this pictures and videos are gone and overwriting but i did manage to save some when they were overwriting when that happend in 2017, but almost all of it was copys of pictures and videos that we already have in our 2 external hard drives so it is not really that big of a lose but still hurts sometimes and i still regrat it, the 3 - 2 - 1 rule is so impoprtant.
ОтветитьIn my case I have large data loss anxiety after I witnessed my father losing part of family photo archive (we lost one fifth of files), and being basically unlucky with hard drives (he experienced so far 4 data losses in last 5 years, out of witch 2 were fatal). For that reason I have N+3 redundancy for regular data (content of PC and notebook system drive and drive with movies, TV series and iTunes library) and N+4 redundancy for documents and photo archive of my family. Both PC and notebook are SSD only (PC has three 2TB SSDs and notebook single 1TB SSD). On one of those SSDs in my PC (D: drive and I call it VIP drive) I have most valueable data (family photo archive, electronic documents, install binaries for old vintage games, etc.)
I slightly modified this to (3-2-1 + 1) convention (3 copies of data including original, two different media types and one storage that physically is NOT located at my home and extra cloud copy of my VIP drive)
I have one 8 TB external hard drive that is always ready next to my PC but I plug it in only when needed I call it master backup drive. I have also two other external hard drives out of which only one is located at my home, second one remains in off-site place and I refresh backup every 2 weeks and off-site backup each month. When refreshing off-site copy, I rewrite one of my external hard drives with exact copy of master backup drive, move the hard drive to off-site and then I bring home back previously off-site drive and I also refresh its contents. And when it comes to my documents and photos archive, I have 2 TB plan on Google Drive on different Google account, where I upload copy of my VIP drive.
So far I have not experienced for last 2 years using this backup scenario any fatal data loss issue. While I lost data on one of drives or original locations, I was able to recover all contents and backups saved me 3 times
1.) By accident overwritten iTunes library restored from one external hard drive
2.) Corrupt C: drive in PC again restored using byte copy located on external hard drive
3.) Misconfigured Google drive mirroring which deleted me some data. Restored from secondary Google Drive account
It costed me money on buying hardware and I spend time and money on maintaining backup scenario plan and paying Google drive subscription, but this is like with insurance, normally you do not see any added value, only spent money and time, but when it comes to emergency scenario, it is invaluable feeling, that nothing got lost and secondly that you do not have pay data recovery lab or paying ransom to get your data decrypted with unsure results.
I have been keeping 1 primary and 2 Backups all these years. But it's an uphill battle these days with ever bloating file sizes.
Ответить👍
ОтветитьThe 2 types of media rule and M-DISK is why I hate seeing Computers with out Blu-ray Drives.
ОтветитьI feel like im the only one who cares when it comes to data and im the only one who know a little bit about this stuff, with anyone i have ever met so far.
ОтветитьWith media you mean to Type of hardware or type of file? , thank you!
Ответитьyou look like bill gates if he was the CEO of nintendo
ОтветитьHow long a simple verbatim DVD could last? I want to believe that discs are the best option since electronic devices fail sooner or later.
ОтветитьTo not damage the Video Files and Images... Archive it in Rar, Zip, 7z, and ISO if that drive used in normal basis multiple read and writes
ОтветитьFilm photos make this easy. Original, Imported photo, backup copy. 2 physical copies. Then the backup copy is stored offsite.
ОтветитьI swear I remember you talking about a slightly more robust revision of the 3-2-1 rule - a 5-3-2 rule, I believe?
ОтветитьThe only methods worth backups are USB, harddrive and online! But I cringe at online backup!
ОтветитьCDs 💿 are simply coasters now!
ОтветитьI do realize the importance of data backup.
Make backup, and backup copies. It is like: Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Thank you sir.

ОтветитьGoing back to old storage media like tape, 8", 5.25" and 3.5" floppies, Zip disks, CD/DVD, many of the devices that could read it are no longer or soon no longer available while the date within those files are still good. Its a constant turnover to new technology while old hardwares are being abandoned. What will be outdated next, USB, SSD?
Ответитьquality thank you
ОтветитьThis video was super helpful, thank you so much!
ОтветитьThank you ☺️
Ответить$71.00 US Dollars for a carton of Marlboro Black 100's
Maybe I could do some work for you but I have $1'500 on my tab . So can I please have a cigarette I know that you had cancer but I know that it doesn't kill you
Can I have some new $1 for a carton of cigarettes this is Brian as the one with the Capital One card my daughters use Capital One or at least they do Capital One commercials
ОтветитьThis is a very good explanation on back- up of computer data.
ОтветитьI find that the key is to separate out what I really need instead of backing up gigabytes of stuff that can be reproduced from a install dvd, for example. The ratio of data to stuff you really need is 10 or 30. So if 10% 30% of the data is really important, it's not as hard to follow the multiple-media, multiple-locations guideline.
Ответитьthe cloud won't fail 😎
ОтветитьI was performing a backup from my primary drive to backups. Some data on my main drive was corrupted. Fortunately it was old data. Not the new data. I used one of my backups to restore the older data.
3 2 1 Rule. It works.
Not even the first time something like that has happened.
Ok
ОтветитьI realize I only have backup copies of my unedited photos. Is it really necessary for my to make copies of the edited photos? I could just edit the original copy again if I somehow lose the edited version right ?😅
ОтветитьExcellent advice 👍
ОтветитьIn the event of an ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE from a NUCLEAR 💥🔥 EXPLOSION, I suspect one's DATA SECURITY would be the least of one's worries! 😂😂😂
ОтветитьALost one mill subs keep up the great work!
ОтветитьData-fade!? On magnetic media (HDD), how does one re-locate data to another part of a drive so that relocated system files continue to work as before? (using a 7th gen quad-core Dell with 1TB capacity using Windows 10)
ОтветитьI wish I have more drives to backup
ОтветитьThis is why I made two copies of myself, but they can't comment now because they are off site.
Ответитьme: uses 250000 sheets of paper (each stores 8mb, and it's EMP proof)
also: uses about 3000 CDs (each stores 700mb, water & sort of fireproof)
and: 222222 casette tapes (each holds about 9mb, assuming 44.1 kilobits per second and a half-hour tape)
that's what I call exotic backup solutions
Didn't bother much about backups until my daughters were born, and no way I'm losing any pictures or videos of them. I have their first steps in several different places.
Ответитьwhat about the gold archival CDs?
I understand the best way for pro photographers to have a backup is to use a brand new SD card for every shoot, then the photos are kept on the original media in the original format,
one reason for this is SD cards deteriorate over time as in many rewrites and formatting and a new a SD card every shoot means the best quality SD card and least likely to fail SD card,
then ofc you back up the files on an external hard drive, then ofc another backup that is off site
What anout sony's archival disc longevity?
