5 Reasons NOT to Move to Florida or Texas

I agree 100% but this applies a lot to entrepreneurs and people can work from anywhere in the world. Now, i believe that should be everyone's goal, but while you reach those goals, nothing wrong with moving within your country to a better state that will treat you better than your current one.

Being well acquainted with Spain and Italy , I wonder where does the idea of escaping the "eat the rich" mentality by going there comes from. Taxes are huge in Europe and the disdain for the wealthy and successful is about 100% bigger there. In fact being fluent in Spanish and ok in Italian I can tell you that the "hate for Americans" one hears so much about is not really against Americans but it is the assumption that "Americans are rich". Disdain for the wealthy and successful of their own country is about the same. I love Spain and I am working to live there but it is definitely NOT because of lower taxes and the avoidance of social envy. In fact social envy exists even in Germany.

So what was the reason for not moving to FL?

Moved from Washington to Texas close to 6 years ago. Started in austin to have a similar style of living but better politics. Ended up doing recon in east texas and found the land to be very affordable and I ended up building an off grid house on a fedex driver schedule/salary. Opportunity for business is amazing here, cost of living is minimal and i can still get all my boujee food and supplies in town. Only downside is that if you don't take any self sufficient initiative then the power grid is pretty fragile and tornadoes are a real threat.

California lets face it has some of the best weather and is really beautiful in scenery but they lost there mind there so yeah time to go.

As a retiree does Ireland tax social security or retirement pension income ? As someone with US and Irish passport ?

Unlike Andrew, as someone who has recently lived in New York, Texas and Florida, moving to Texas and Florida, if you are going to stay in the United States, the best moves I've made were to TX/FL
This is a great move if you want better weather, lower taxes, friendlier people, lower costs of living, beaches and sexy women in Florida, giant homes and roads in Texas. These states are for winners.

I'm not following. How can you move to a different country and pay less in taxes? You personally can move anywhere, no questions asked, but what about your business? Are you gonna move you e.g. construction company oversees or what? How do you move your income?

I moved up to 500 miles away from where I grew up and came to realize that with airlines and rental cars I could get home very easily. I am now about 350 miles away from my 2 siblings and where I grew up and it is easy enough to drive back to what was home. My one sister lives in Arizona and is about 1500 to 1800 miles away and if I pick the right flight even on a budget airlines I see her in about 4 to 5 hours. I grew up in a high tax state which has had an exodus of industry and jobs. Frankly its no longer home and I wouldn't dream of moving back to where I grew up and where my other 2 siblings live. Its warmer here, has less taxes, & plenty of work and help wanted signs. If my wife would move or if she heaven forbids dies I could see myself moving over seas very easily or to someplace else in the USA that has even lower taxes than here and doesn't tax retirement income. ( Social security, 401 K payouts, etc) Transportation has really changed and distance is no longer as big of a problem as it was in the past. When you die you can even get your body moved back to the USA or any other location that you want for burial. One of my uncles wrote this into his will. Personally, it is a family tradition to see the person before you die and none of us has even been back to our parents' grave. My parents are not in their grave, they are elsewhere according to our beliefs. I am sure that you can disperse money for airline tickets by a written documet before your death. Where ever I am at is where they can bury me.

You hit some very valid points! Well, My family and I moved to TX from MO last year, and I find it was the best move for our family, and everyone is happy. We are exempt from paying property tax. Now not moving because of friends and family is not my cup of tea. When we where close to family, the only time we saw them is when we paid them a visit. Same experience with friends. Friendships are often times lopsided! We are already considering another country move at some point. By the way, I just received the Nomad Capitalist Book.

I have lived in many states and have traveled to the Middle East and Europe. I love living in Texas. Also no state income taxes. Prices are cheaper here also. Cheap food and cheap housing. Texas is multicultural and on the border of Mexico. He's right ....don't California my Texas.

Education correlates with wokeness. Going to a high-earning, western country will be woke. Even if you move to a. non-western country, but you are in the bubble of expats, most likely they will be woke. The women will be working, the word gay will not be taboo, so good luck running away to a nice place that isn't woke. If you're trying to escape "woke', you better go to a muslim country or a low-education country.

No income tax in Florida. Great weather during the winter. Growing economy. Florida is great.

If you are thinking of starting a family, Texas and Florida are not the places to be.
If something goes wrong with the pregnancy, you are in deep trouble, due to their abortion restrictions.
Gynaecologists and obstetritians are leaving these states at a great rate due to the same reasons, meaning it is increasingly difficult to access decent care.
And heaven help you if your kid turns out to be transgender, because the state will doe everything in their power to turn their lives into a misery.

The tax free status in FL is pretty evened out by the exorbitant insurance and property taxes. TN would be a good choice if you can earn a good living still.

I live in Cali. I won’t be leaving, but many people here are already from other places. So, the family living elsewhere thing is already been managed.

The dummies from Cali, NY, NJ ran to Florida THINKING they could SAVE MONEY on taxes
Didn't take long for ONE BIG HURRICANE to wreck every penny they saved by moving there
NOW their taxes are 2x what they were because they PAID TOO MUCH
Their HOME INSURANCE went 5x or even got cancelled, more losses
Their mortgage rate jumped up from 1% to 7%
Even if they paid cash for their house, all these other massive increases in taxes, insurance have wiped out any savings they thought they had
NOW living in Florida is NOT AFFORDABLE
THEY LOST thousands of dollars per year more than they'd expected to
SO, all of the sudden Florida doesn't look so ROSY, does it.

Leaving the country completely brings language and culture issues. Plus US citizens are stuck paying US taxes no matter where they live. Only earned income gets a (relatively high but limited) exclusion. Also the cost of living isn't that low in most desirable countries - at least not compared to Texas and parts of Florida.

At this point, no state provides me with what I'm looking for in terms of quality of life. 1) Healthcare - more accessible, lower cost, better care, no decrease in efficacy of treatment (even that last point is dubious in some parts of the US), 2) Culture/Education - I am seeing more issues with the school system and I am not sure homeschooling will be possible for us in the near term. 3) Gun violence - I own firearms and did my 4 years. I still am not a 2A absolutist. The 'well regulated militia' aspect is overlooked in the conversation all the time. There are some sick people with no training and ill intent with easy access to firearms. At this point I'm just rolling the dice on being shot by some kid on SSRIs. Unacceptable.

I wouldn't advise anyone to move to Europe, Canada, or Australia. They're going down faster than a toilet paper airplane in a thunderstorm. 😮😮 One big factor mentioned is taking poor choices elsewhere. If all the political waters are muddied by corruption, chances are you end up with the same issues no matter where you live, because its been planned that way. He mentioned, "Don't California up my Texas". Maybe the newbies learned a lesson about their poor choices, but the system is so distorted it won't matter what personal choices we make.
