Oracle's VirtualBox virtualization software doesn't come with an easy way to boot a virtual machine off of a USB flash drive. There are a few third party programs that will help you with this process but you don't need to use them if you just run a simple command on your VirtualBox software.

Check out our writeup on how to do this procedure.

So this doesn't run in ram? I want to make a ssd or flash drive with multiple images that by a simple pres 1 for TV 2 for office 3 for games ect. Loads an image and copy's it to a ram drive and works from there.

So if I use this method, the storage used for the VM files will be on my Flash Drive, correct?
My laptop's storage is nearly full, and I'm trying to find a way to not use up any more storage than necessary when I create a new VM.
Great video btw!

Thank you so much! I got to boot into my anti-virus software to make sure there were no leftovers of a trojan that was packaged with an iso of windows 7 I got.
