thank you for this. does this somehow translate to a specific distance?
ОтветитьI just do a short walk but a lot more strength training!
ОтветитьReally enjoyed your video and helped me decide on my minimum walking goals (60-90 mins for at least 5 days a week).
I wasn't sure if I understood all the figures though. You said the AMA recommends a minimum of 150 mins a week of moderate Intensity exercise (I assume walking fits there) and based on the average person walking 7,000 steps in an hour then this would mean at 2,500 steps a day. This appears to be very low based on the reports you discussed where on most factors the benefits only seem to start at 4,000 steps a day. Have I misunderstood or is the AMA recommendation too low?
Humans are given legs and arms by nature to use them!
Ответитьbro, my african american, why the straight donkey testicles isn't the answer to the question answered in the first 10 seconds?
Ответить10,000 steps a day has been perfect for me. It’s really changed my life and I’ve been doing it more than a year. I averaged about 4600 steps a day before that and wasn’t in great health. I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch since 2017, so I’ve got years of data. All of the heart related measures have improved drastically. Not to mention my mood
ОтветитьDoes anyone know if treadmill walking is also effective?
Ответить2700 steps per day is extremely sedentary. I walk 2000 steps during the morning just sitting at home.
Ответитьyour arms burn calories too
ОтветитьAddressing fat loss would've been nice. It is related to "Health".
ОтветитьI've lost 70lbs in 11 months by walking only 10,000 steps a day, it's bull that 10,000 steps is not enough.
ОтветитьAre you a fake doctor? Shouldn't you know a single study is useless? There is no guarantee that because you make a study, that you actually get things right, so you should never give advice to others unless you use CONSENSUS data.
My grandfather got to be 95+ he smoked and was a car spray painter before we got all the protective gear, according to your way of sciensing... He proves that smoking is healthy and we don't need protective gear to use highly toxic spray car paint...
I'm so glad my lifestyle puts me at 7500+ steps a day. I am a homeschooling sahm to 5 kids. A regular day of keeping up with the kids and home gives me my steps!
ОтветитьI was once very active and fit. Now im crippled, and wish i could just go for a walk anywhere. It sux ! You're health and well-being is definitely connected with just being able to walk.
ОтветитьIm 86 kg now.. im gonna start walking 10k steps from today.. will update my weight everytime someone likes my comment... wish me luck😢
ОтветитьI’m 51 and have lost about 70lbs. Over the last two years. Walking has been a large part of this. I average about 13,000 steps a day. Eating healthy and controlling portions are obviously part of this also.
ОтветитьI do 8-10,000 steps a day. I am going to avoid death altogether.
ОтветитьGreat video, thanks for the info
ОтветитьThx for that!
ОтветитьYou need more than 10.000 steps
ОтветитьWalking is one of the simplest and oldest form of "transportation", but in today's world we are too lazy to walk due to the existence of convenient transportation ( i.e bus, bicycle, motorcycle and etc.) ,even stand just to get a glass of water.
ОтветитьI am walking 10,000 steps a day in the past one month and my weight reduced from 86kg to 80kg. But I doubt the weighing machine!
ОтветитьWalking isn`t exercise.
ОтветитьZERO...STOP TRAINING AND LEANR TO SLEEP!
ОтветитьI think it is a lot of steps!😱
Ответить10k was just a marketing ploy for selling step counters when they first went on sale.
ОтветитьEvery fat guy I know counts steps.
ОтветитьWhat is the maximum I walk between 20-30k a day on average?
ОтветитьI try to do 11,000 steps, but don't always get to my goal. However that plus a improved diet has me 40lb lighter in 4 and a half months. Still need to lose another 80lbs to reach a healthy weight for my 5ft self
ОтветитьWell its 12 steps from my bed to the fridge then 8 to the chair.
ОтветитьThanks, Dr. Jeff. I'm a 73-year-old man, and at the start of the year I was obese--5'6" & 213 lbs. I did a self-assessment, and determined that at my age I needed to get my fitness house in order immediately, and never look back. To that end, I started a regimen consisting of a combination of Keto, intermittent fasting, and a bit of exercise, though more would have been preferred in the case of the latter. I dropped 30 lbs. quickly (within a month or so). After that I plateaued for much of the year, not gaining any back, but not getting my weight down either.
When autumn rolled around, Iresolved to get back to work and find ways to challenge myself to drop more weight, while maintaining or even enhancing my lean muscle mass. In October, I decide to start walking to nearby shopping of a mile or so, the gradually became more ambitious, venturing out to a mile and a half, two miles, and even a little farther. The more I walked, I realized how much I enjoyed it, and even looked forward to it.
This got ramped up around Thanksgiving, after I recalled the claims that have been made about the health benefits of 10,000 steps. Since then, I've done a minimum of 10,000, but have also seen that go up to 11,000, 12,000, and even 15,000 steps. I used the word "done" as opposed to "walked" intentionally, because I also add periods where I'll jog for a minute or so, then walk, then jog a bit more. And on top of that, my 10,00+ steps also usually include jogging up flights of steps (often stairwells in parking garages)--typically I'll go up 7 to 9 flights, but have topped out at 14.
Not only is there a marked improvement in my conditioning, and improved cognitive funtion, but I'm now down to 163 lbs. (not my ultimate ideal weight, but trending in the right direction, for sure!). For anyone considering getting into steps, based on my experience, I strongly recommend it. (Resistance training is just as important, and it's very possible to have success without any equipment, by the use of isometrics and body-weight training for muscle gain).
7500 steps... that looks a lot. I do walking exercise for like 15 mins per day but that already makes me tired.
ОтветитьVery succinct and fact-based video. Well done! We want more!
ОтветитьI’m really curious how indoor walking in one place or walking on a treadmill affects these results
ОтветитьMy father never exercised but did walk for 8 years for his job, he ate junk and smoked 3 to 4 packs a day and lived to 98. Almost the same story for his cousin who died at 97. Her mother., my aunt almost never left her house and died at 102 . Great grandma at 101 and another aunt is still with us. She will be 104 January 11. Not one of them ever exercised or walked more than they had to. As for me, I'm 82, very active, and eat a healthy diet. Why take chances.
Ответитьawesome ty
ОтветитьYes, but how do you overcome the BOREDOM that comes with mind numbing exercises ! ?
ОтветитьKind of confusing video because he cites a number of studies with different recommended steps. Bottom line at the end of the video=7,500 steps/day
ОтветитьSo walk a minimum of 7500 steps for benefits according to various studies
ОтветитьI'm walking 25000 steps per day but my blood sugar is still high!
ОтветитьI personally think a person should burn 1200 "activity" calories a day. For millions of years before machines people were probably burning more calories than that just by hunting and farming. I know 1200 calories is a lot and it takes at least 2.5 hours for me at age 54 to get there.
Ответить30 minutes every day
ОтветитьThe highest risk is getting hit by a car 😂
ОтветитьLiving in Japan I walked all the time. Now I live in America and have to drive everywhere. Who has the time to walk? I really hate car dependence.
ОтветитьI walk about 150 steps a day. That’s what poor and depressed people do!! I sleep most of the time so I don’t have to face life.
Ответить10 years of walking 10K+ steps per day. No weight loss, no lowering of BP, no feeling "energized". The one measurable benefit, glucose kept in check, absolutely. I love walking don't get me wrong. But I think the hype is just that, hype. I walk because I enjoy doing so but I no longer do it for any health benefits.
ОтветитьI don't care what anybody says. I don't think it's wise to do anything EVERY day. Walk 10 K one day, then stay in the next. Your body will thank you.
ОтветитьWithout a step-counter, 7500 steps equate to 3 miles, or 1 hour of walking. I hope I am right.
ОтветитьI do about 5.6k steps a day walking my dog. Too bad where i live is full of hills and inclined streets, i believe i could do much more if i lived somewhere flatter. Great video
