2018 Mac Mini In 2023! (Still Worth Buying?) (Review)

Useful for me as I run Windows under bootcamp and this is about the last Mac that supports bootcamp.

very nice. Than I did everything right buying a fully maxed 2018 mac mini over a m2. I am wondering why 2023 m2 mac minis dont have 64 gigs of ram, its so important if you work with samples in musicproduction.

I'm still doing full time music production on an Intel based 2018 Mac mini like this one (mine was maxed out). I have the new MacBook Pro M2 (typing on it now) and it simply can't keep up with my Mini on complex tasks- even though the specs say otherwise! I run Logic Pro X on my Mini, and automate up to 6 features per channel @ 24 simultaneous. No problem. When live tracking, I use 3-4 features per channel @ 9 simultaneous. If I use onboard gear, it certainly helps the Mini run cooler, but I don't hear any loss of signal quality and my customers are happy.

For premier pro is good?

I do editing and visual effects on my 2018 mac mini. It's pretty amazing, but there is a little lag time. That said, for ANY other type of application - including Logic Pro with 60+ tracks, it flies. I do have 64GB of RAM. I also use Ext flash drives with nice USB-C cables and that works incredibly well to. The data transfer rate of my externals are 1Gb - 2Gb per second, even though my biggest view files eat up under 100mb/s.

So would you say it’s still worth it for web browsing and some Logic Pro?

Still using The 2018 i5 32gb ram, 512SSD. Very happy with it, my job is mobile development

I have this same macmini! The thing overheats like a mf. I'm always trying different thermal pastes and considering a external fan.

Just get the m1, easily the most value for performance-price in recent history. In Apple’s history, possibly the most value ever. Not to mention the efficiency, one of my clients owns 3 for running various servers on low power

The 2018 Mac Mini may be worth it this year but the 2014 one is too slow to do anything, it's unusable.
