This was my first time to watch this clown show since the very night it happened. Knowing latino people the way I do, having married into their culture, I feel I know now what I knew then, he didn't want to finish this bc it was a clown show. Leonard was a clown that night, and he remains one till this day. What's sickening is hearing Cosell doing his American broadcast, he was as much a Leonard homer as he was Ali. If Leonard had just worked his gameplan in a professional manner, instead of being a clown, Duran would've finished it. No matter what the scorecards say, if you get to latter rounds, it just takes one shot. I despise Leonard for his amateurish behavior. A complete and total insult to boxing. That's saying a lot about a sport that everyone has always known is fixed.

Seems everyone forgot Duran was 190 lbs a month before this fight, Durans management snaked him and made a deal with sugar to make the rematch FAST since sugar knew Duran was overweight. Duran didn’t know about this. SRL even said himself that Duran was nowhere near his peak conditioning for this fight since he was weight drained by losing almost 40 lbs ( unlike the first bout they had ). Had duran come into this fight in the same shape as there 1st fight it would have been a different story. Still though props to them both some of the best fighters of all time.

This was the best performance in boxing history by Leonard. Pound for pound no one in history could match him on that night. He took the second greatest fighter ever and made him look like an amateur. Made him quit.

I admit that I have never been a Duran Fan, and he was a tremendous fighter and boxer, but he quit because he was being shown up. His South American Machismo was hurt beyond repair in that fight. I could never stand his utter arrogance towards his opponents. Perhaps thats what made him such a great fighter, but I still disliked him immensely. Nothing gave me more pleasure (and I am ashamed to admit it) When the hit man Thomas hearns knocked him out.

Ray Leonard before the retina tear is the greatest fighter in history. He mastered every boxing skill there is and had no flaws. He humiliated Duran here and Duran was probably second greatest

FYI Duran was offer this fight on short notice by his manager. Duran didnt even know he was fighting Sugar. Dran was off spending money drinking and partying. in fact his only had time to cut weight, he did no sparring for since it was on short notice. His manager messed this one up. He didnt even ask Duran and didnt make sure Duran was actually in shape. And thats why Duran quit He knew his was not winning.

I miss when people appreciated true boxing, the sweet science, now a days everyone wants to say Mayweather Jr. Runs when he literally moves half as much as SRL did in this bout. Mayweather Jr. perfected the art of hit and not get hit and a good amount of the time, he sits there toe to toe with his opponents and they just can’t land cleanly on him and even then people complain he runs when he’s standing toe to toe. It just amazes me and proves to me that whoever saids he runs didn’t grow up in boxing or watching boxing because SRL and Ali and many others moved way more in the ring than Mayweather Jr. Ever has.

I met a relative of Duran once, she was very proud to be related to him and told stories of how well he treated all his family, she claims they are some bad food the day before and he wasn’t feeling well. She was very sweet, but I still believe Leonard just outboxed him in every way

Duran should have train more in cutting the ring on Leonard. He thought this fight would be the same as the first fight. That's why he failed, got frustrated and quit.

What a way to end a career

Leonard was a cheater. A classless bum. He put rolls of quarters in his fists before getting wrapped up AND he coated the front of his fist with casting plaster after getting wrapped. This fight was in a time of rabid anti Panamanian sentiment in the United States so boxing's governing bodies looked the other way to ensure Leonard was able to "defeat" Duran. Really a very shameful time in this country's history. Since the beginning of this country's history no group of people ha love been as maligned, abused and/or dehumanized the way Panamanian people were.

Without his advantages Leonard was a tomato can.

Duran was such a gentleman he didn't even mention Leonard's blatant cheating. Hopefully he sets the record straight one day!
