Avatar The Way Of Water 4K Blu-ray Review on 100 GIGS! Does Size Matter?

Great looking on the pani so dolby vison would have been cool but not necessary. But the Audio punch was a bit lack luster. had to crank it up higher than usual to get the same space filling sound.

Avatar: The Way Of Water is a great masterpiece, it has a good story, a good screenplay, amazing characters, masterful actors work, great music and editing, and the most emotional half hour in the last 10 years. It was the best movie released last year. People were giving it Tens and Nines when the movie ended, I was there and recorded a lot of reactions. The Blu-ray 3D from both Avatar and Avatar 2 movies beat every other edition of those 2 films. The 2 Avatar movies are much better than Marvel, Top Gun Maverick, The Fabelmans, that european war movie, The Whale, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Star Wars, EEAAO, The Hurt Locker, etc., BUT, because those 2 movies say how (north) americans (and some english persons like those English film critics) are and that they are obsessed with wars, a lot of americans did not like it. They prefer the semi-fascist, pro war Marvel / Star Wars stuff, lol. I loved when the pro-gay, pro-indígena and pro-dolphins groups made noise to boicot the film, because the movie never speaks against them, and all they did was make a fool of themselves and make the movie gross even more money, even though Fluffypedia tries to say otherwise. The truth is that China, Europe (even Ukraine), South America, Mexico and India loved the movie, no matter what the movie media and blu-ray / film critics say.

NGL i was reallly underwhelmed with the visuals on A2...
yes the movie is crisp as fuck with amazing animations..BUT there was none of those good old HDR colour popping scenes.

This is a "bad" version, it is impossible to rip a 4k bluray in 4k quality, "removing the audios" if you rip the bluray, it is a 50 gigabyte movie, as is it possible for a 3 hour movie in uhd(4k) It only occupies 50 gigabytes, when that is the size of any 2-hour 4k movie. ".. they should have done it like BLURAY 3D split it into 2 discs and of higher quality. But of course 2 blurays of 100 gigabytes would be more expensive for the distribution

I hate all disney mixes. They sound compressed with no bass and dynamics

Put on a the UHD last night with a couple of buds, and I’m not gonna lie, the renders for most animals, like the giant whale chase scene, felt very off, like they weren’t completely done rendering, me and one other guy watched it in theaters, and he’s a pretty casual movie goer, and even he noticed something was off (with my tech friend and I, nerding out about it all lol), but yeah, de renders just felt off, like something that needed touch up in post, like they accidentally sent out the unfinished version of the movie. Could also be the compression but even so, it shouldn’t look that much worse right? (Also, two disc!! But hey, maybe the UHD successor will get it right, right?

Could someone please tell me if the normal 1080p Bluray looks better than on Disney+?

Slightly inconsistent is that the 4k blu ray comes with Atmos audio, the standard blu ray has DTS-hd 5.1, the 3d blu ray has DTS-HD 7.1 audio. At least on the UK releases.

Ive been watching the HBO Max stream of this and the audio is surprisingly good for a Disney release. Definitely not a reference track, but at least the bass and volume aren't total garbage like the majority of the MCU films. Maybe Disney is finally getting the message?

I certainly would have preferred a two-disc arrangement. Most people need to stop the movie at some point anyhow to use the rest room or grab more snacks and drinks. Intermissions used to be the perfect way to address the run-time of long films, but today movie houses expect you to sit for hours without a break, or miss part of the movie. That's why, I built my own home theater. I control everything, and they can go suck it.

Anybody know where I can find the amount of data on the "Avatar The Way Of Water 4K Blu-ray" disc. I see it described as a BD-100 disc, but where do I find the actual data size on any 4K UHD disc?

The sound was pretty shait...I give it a 5-6 mostly ambiance. Visuals is ok but the film itself was pretty meh...awaiting no. 3 to see if it is more entertaining.

I love this movie to the point where I saw it seven times in theaters both in Dolby Cinema and IMAX. But I'm being completely honest when I say that I have little interest in watching it again unless it is in it's true 48fps form. I feel like I'm not really watching the movie unless it's in the original frame rate. I'm extremely disappointed that this was not included in the 4k disk.

On Kaleidescape, it's 125GB in 1080p and 103GB in 4K. I assume the 1080p is larger because of H.264 vs. H.265.

4K 3D projectors have been available for years, and VR is beginning to support 4K video with the Apple Vision Pro, so we need a 4K 3D digital movie service.

Glad to hear it has standard 24fps. I hate HFR! Gemini Man 4K has 60fps and I really hated it. I much prefer the 24fps bluray. I will NEVER watch the 4K again. I was really afraid Cameron would have used the HFR on the 4Ks. That is the deciding factor for me buying these movies. Thanks for the info!

James Cameron has never been a fan of conspicuous audio panning and directional effects. Way back in the T2 days he talked about how he hates panning and prefers a less self-conscious, more ambient approach to his surround mixes. What’s happening with Avatar 2’s Atmos mix is in line with what he’s done for decades.

It's hard to relate to a comparison of a Kaledescape version...because well, i,'d have to sell my car to get the system. As long as its better than the Disney+/vudu stream

Wow, such a shame Bass is lacking. I'm used to the volume being low. But Damn, Disney dt care and neither do I. So, no need to rush out to get the 4k....

I have a pretty good high-tech monster cave myself & and it depends on how you adjust to different formats. Most of my 4K Blu-ray movies look & sound great...

The vision Pro Apple headsett had a demo of the avatar movie in 3D, and its better 3D cause its actually two pictured instead of 2 intertwined pictures that are in eachother 😁

Regarding the video file space I am bummed. Just picked up a Sony X95L and was looking forward to this. I know you said that the video was still very good but could be possibly better if they had used more file space or 2 discs. Well, poo.

Just checked the 3D version. It is very decent to my eyes, brings a much more enjoyable experience than the 4K version. It has 2 discs just for the movies, and looks like each disc has 40g on it. Compared to the cinema version in my memory? maybe just lack of a bit color and sharpness. This 3D version trumps the 4K easily, imo

I watched the stream, thought it looked great. Will pick up the Blu-ray, wish the disc had DV, but Disney is going to Disney.

Definitely won't be picking the first one up due to the lack of extended cut, missing special features, 2K upscaled cgi etc. but this one looks good.. thank you as always for a great review!

Agreed. I was expecting 100g, but turned out it is just 80+. The sound is medicore. I also noticed the DTS HD track in some scenes even presents a bit more clarity than the Atmos track

I wish it was 16:9 like the first avatar movie for maximum immersion. It fills the screen completely.

I watched this on Disney+ an it was OK. video was great, Audio was lame and the Story was nonexistent. It actually felt like a fantasy nature documentary for 80% of the runtime. Not much story progression, not much action. It was OK, but clearly geared towards being the start of a multi-film franchise or a Streaming Series...🤷‍♂️

Removed the menus, audios and the rest. The video is just about 60GB! Such a disappointing release!
No 2 100GB discs, No Dolby Vision for a Cameron film.
Now I have no hopes for the abyss, titanic and true lies to be great as they did till the DVD era
