How to Fix WhatsApp Error Something Went Wrong With Your Chat History | Android

After getting this error, my chats went back to SEPT 3, over one month back. I restarted the phone, but still October chats are missing. Last back up in settings shows Sept 3, even though the app is set to backup daily. What can I do to get my chats back? My app is already updated.
