I remembered this video and built a 5700G build in early 2022. I've since upgraded to a 5800X3D / 6700XT and I also have a nifty little mico-computer to run steam link on in my living room. I'm honestly really happy the way everything worked out. I waited and got both for great prices! Thanks!

Watching this gave me PTSD! I still can't believe what GPU's were going for during that horrible shortage! Came back to watch this review after seeing the 4750g on Amazon this morning.

I have a old gpu from a pre build medioo pc as a backup when maybe my rx 570 (8GB) is dieing.

The shortage a few years ago was WORSE.
The current one is bad though.

Ryzen 2300g - you're a generation BEHIND - though those 2xxx APUs didn't have an 8 core version.
There was at least one other model of 2xxx APU for desktops.
BUT THE DRIVERS WERE HORRIBLE for a while.

My second gaming machine happens to be a A10-7850K.
It's a tossup with a HD7750 for graphics - SAME number of cores, SAME clock speed, hampered by SLOWER memory than a GDDR5 version of the 7750 only.
Still viable for a lot of gaming, though I'd not try a recent First Person Shooter on it or anything else that needs a TON of FPS.
Handles Ashes of the Simulation at 1440p, abet with some settings turned down.
Marginal for No Man's Sky though.

Intel first introduced THEIR "graphics on a CPU" in 2010.
Their lead was NOT all that great - AMD was working on "fusion" years before that.

As it proved, the "GPU Crisis" was in fact MORE about the manufacturers transitioning to a new node and COVID than it was about mining.
The "Crisis" persisted MONTHS past the GPU Mining collapse when Etherium moved to Proof of Stake RIGHT AROUND THE TIME THIS VIDEO APPEARED.

I dont modern but still make homebrew on retro systems. Just upgraded my 3600g to 5600g and it's serving me well. Great APUs and i really hope they keep the R&D going to make them more on par with traditional GPUs. Obviously will never be the same but money talks and these are great bang for buck. People like myself just need emulators to run stable and other general needs without breaking the bank on a graphics card. The wife will start asking too many questions about the money i spend.

This is confusing. I bought a Ryzen 5 2400G like 3 years ago and am still using it today, I'm pretty sure it was still available when this video came out. And better apus too. IDK maybe I'm stupid.

With AMD iGPU u beed to OC it for use for gaming.
Still have 2200G and OC of 1500 and manage, also sometimes use 5600G at 1900 (saddly can not chane ram speed without new bios that can not chane, reasons,so..) and 2400mhz for ram the change for iGPUis not that huge. bedween them.

I'd much rather chips be allocated towards discrete graphics cards than integrated graphics

For non gamer, APU can definitely the way to go. I do music production and video editing and spending 700$ on a GPU is so useless. Glad to have the hand on the 5700G

sitting here watching this with my Ryzen 5 5600x and a brand new 3060 ti, and having flashbacks to my shortage struggles with a 2nd hand gtx 660 ti and an i5 6600, those were dark days indeed!

I just swapped a 3200G for a 5700G in the wife's desktop because she doesn't game, but also doesn't want to wait for stuff to happen.

Interesting how the 7000 series all has integrated graphics. Almost like they are actually listening but the r&d is years in the pipeline.

Q4 2022: These have been fairly common and available online in the Philippines for quite some time, I think they get sourced from Hong Kong mostly. If Ryzen's 7000 series doesn't come out with an APU mid-year next year, I'm fine with this because it's still way cheaper to hit 64GB DDR4 than DDR5 (moving up from a Ryzen 5 2600).

Yes i found the Vega8 for 40€ whats near identical powere than geforce 1050TI are a very good grafic for this minimum price! And i play most all games with minimum middle graficoptions. (only Cyberpunk i must al little under middle but it locks good and have a stable game for 1920x1080) For me its enougth to chill and wait for good prices for a real grafikcard. But i have no need woried aboud it. All are fine.
The only thing is, you need more ram and this ram if you later buy a real grafik card its not waste if you use Photo/video/audio cutting tools.

I have both in two systems 1050ti and in the other pc vega8, FPS are mostly identy in my games. Can Play X4 (space game), cyberpunk, Satisfactory.... sure not of highest but middle is godd possible and for me absolute ok for dam 40€. (8GB RAM of 32GB)

I'm not questioning the chip shortage but it's getting to the point where every other company is using it to increase prices. Plus, I assume everyone in the chain knows by now that, in the end. Pushing the shortage narrative is only good for business. Just a thought I had.

even 2400g and 3400g is still very good today.
could play most games at 720p at low to high settings
as long you have faster ram like 3200 mhz in dual channel.

I really thought this cpu was bad, i got one for 170 on ebay it just had one bent pin and i fixed it up and now i see why it's really good as a cpu, later i bought a rtx 2060 so now it's really good.

APUs are great for beginners and for ITX builds. I built my little brother a 2400g system with a picoPSU that's the size of a book for $400. I keep offering to help him upgrade it but aside from adding storage and RAM he's never wanted to trade the form factor for a dGPU. I think full-size towers are what cause a lot of people to shy away from the hobby
