Apple iMac M1 review: The ideal portable desktop

I really need this because I got a really old laptop that don’t even boot

I bought a new 24" imac to replace an 11 yr old 21" imac and for some reason I'm having trouble getting the monitor to "look right" in my home office. I'm not sure if it is a room lighting issue or a monitor problem. Setting next to my old mac the "contrast" is not nearly as good. The text does not "stand out" clearly from the White background. If I turn up the brightness it seems to be "glaring" at me, almost like there is a "light bleed." If I turn brightness down it looks very grey and not sharp. The Apple store rep told me to turn on night shift and lower the blue light. This helps some at night but not as much in the day.
I'm going to change my ceiling fan bulbs from 3,000 K to either 4,000 or 5,000k and see if that makes a difference. If not I'm going to call Apple Care and let them see if there is a monitor problem.
Any other suggestions or have others described this problem?

I'm a personal desktop conference... Be somewhat guided by the modem meditation and by the way just try to build a contract of superior qualities that would find solvable work and should complete any blueprint.

Apple computers are real junks , it is garbages which should be in trashes , get PC Mac computers are real junks which never works , I suggest , trash all apple computers in trashes , the garbages never works properly , and real junks , which they got never charging lot of money for this piece of garbages , they are nothing more than common thief , corporation thief , junk it all .

You told me exactly what I wanted to know in the first 5 seconds! I want a MacBook but I’m honestly so sick of laptops and all their high maintenance BS but I’ve never had a Mac other than phones and iPads. I want to be able to easily move the desktop into my bedroom. Thanks for the review!

Have you had any problems with the "memory leak" issue? I just set up my beautiful shiny new iMac and it was inoperable from the get-go. Different apps were using so much memory the system crashed repeatedly. Multiple tech-support calls later, using first aid, reinstalling OS, I sent it back for a replacement. Now, looking online I see this is a major problem for many people. As a lifelong Apple committed fan, and deeply disappointed and disillusioned. Considering canceling my order altogether and purchasing from a different company. I would love to hear your experience with this if any.

This hang up most tech reviewers have about missing ports and SD card slots I think they are missing the point. This is a machine aimed at an average consumer who most likely don’t have a fancy DSLR and the only way they will be transferring photos is via the phone which in most cases can be done wirelessly or to the cloud and hence no need for the SD card slot.

After Steve job die, apple computer is crap. I can’t even download any files on my brand new computer.

If it had a 49" ultrawide screen, 128GB unified memory 255GB RAM 5TB SSD.

Apple really should add touch and pen support to these things, it would be more consistent, portable and competitive with PCs. 100% of artist would rejoice.

Small correction though, if someone trips over the cord, it probably will take down the computer. It's not MagSafe, even though it's magnetic connection.

The best thing about these computers is that they shouldn’t feel a lot worse as far as speed goes over the years. They should last a lot longer and only lack in what hardware the new ones will get. Surfing the web should still be snappy 5 years from now. These will be very good to get as used models at much better prices after current users get tired of the color they chose.

Right, a lot people here are making fun of this “portable desktop” take but my dad has been dreaming of getting an imac to this for years and I think it is finally feasible. I think people on the internet are either enthusiasts or pros and miss the point of these base configuration consumer electronics.

But im not a fan of all the different colors...i know they go back to the original colors of the original iMacs. The colors are too pastel. I had really always like the silver and grey apple had been using for a while. I know there is still the silver. But it looks different...maybe its the white bezel which is a deal breaker for me as well. Just not a good look imho.

These colors make the new iMac Pro more approachable to kids and less tech savvy users? When I was a kid, we had a grey metal box running windows potato (3.1 I think).
The screen probably had some pixels.

Simple gaming? This thing can play the newest Tomb Raider on highest settings through emulation...

Great video... Engadget has always been a source of INFO when needed,. I'm going for Yellow, 512 and 16gb.... you can't increase as you could with the Older iMacs! also wonder, I do have a wifi enabled HDD which also takes a memory card...or hook up a portable HDD with a card reader as well... I am FULL on Apple in my home, and have a few AirPorts....also had a Titanium Coloured imac years ago... I wish I still had it as a "Piece of Art"...which the New 24" will be....

I can say with certainty there are a large number who will purchase the cheaper model who will plug nothing into the two ports at back or only a mouse.

Great review! It perfectly explains the portability factor which is one of the best features of this crazy light big screen desktop. And the colors are just plain amazing in a sea of blacks. Apple has made the desktop PC desirable again.

Fastest but ugliest of them all. All in ones

The NEW Apple 24 inch M1 iMac is made for normals, not for professionals, or pundits. Most normals never plug any accessories in to there iMac's. Not even external drives for TIme Machine.

Now having worked out of college for a professional production company my hopes are much higher for the new truly professional Apple M* iMac's that will come next.

What about the "tangerine" iBook clamshell or CRT models?

I respect your opinion regarding the keyboard however, I'm noticing that no one have noticed that the keyboard feedback have been improved, it feels more sturdy than the previews design.

The lamp style iMac was a G4 not a G3

Where's the design in a flat slab of nothing - the gory colours don't help - maybe Apple could do a stainless steel version to honour SpaceX😂

Desktops are meant to be moved around the house. We have laptop for that. 😂
