You DON'T Need More Than an i3...Here's Why

Hello toasty bros, had a question, i have a hp omen 25L with a i3 13100f and a gtx 1660 super. It runs great and smooth i really have no issues with it ti be honest, i was just wondering if i should stick with the i3 or a spare i5 6500 i have layin around that was in a old dell pc?

Yeah........ an i3 will get the job done if you have a RX 6600, but for literally anything other than 1080p gaming you're gonna need more cores and more threads. There is a reason they make the CPU's that have as high performance that they have. It's because technology is growing and we need better hardware to handle more data. If everyone had an i3 12100 most people would be more than fine, but mid-range GPUs and production workers will need many more cores and threads.

If you are building a new PC in 2023, AMD seems to give you more bang for your buck. With a Ryzen 5 5600x, you are ending up with comparable performance to i5-12400 for a significantly lower price, if we factor in prices for motherboards. Even if we compare the Ryzen 5 5600x to an i3-12100, you only end up paying 30$ more for a significantly stronger CPU. However, as this video shows, the i3 remains a perfectly suitable CPU for gaming that will probably last you a few generations from now. So, if you are already running an i3, it's probably best to stay on that until your next fresh build.

By the way, before you ask, the Ryzen 5 5600 and the 5600x are so similar in performance that you could use them interchangably without noticing any real difference. The additional 200 Mhz of the 5600x simply doesn't tranlate into any noticable performance-difference. But, since both are the same price right now, there is no reason to not get the nominally stronger 5600x.

The i3s are genuinely impressive capable gaming chips now. I remember when they first dropped and they were terrible but that isnt the case anymore. Serious value for money there.

I know this :) my very budget rig is i3 10100f and gtx 1660 super for fhd 75hz.

i had an i3 2100 (2nd gen) and upgraded to i5 2500 ... There was a raw performance difference (considering advantage of Turbo Boost), but now it's only confusion in new gens..
the i5 2500 did a great job. It pretty much never was problem in my gaming other than my GPUs..

My i3 worked for me like an i7..Because I was gaming with this for 2 years almost everyday. I have to say is i3 is way better of an option than buying a Pentium considering Hyperthreading feature as well. But I would usually try my best for an i7 or minimum i5 so I dn't have to worry about a cpu upgrade for a while..

12100f is a beast. Peoples will eventually buy new hardwares after 7 years right? Right???? Right!!!!!

Bro its not about the FPS its about the cores, if your gaming and doing other stuff you will suffer with an i3
