I remember when they used to say, the licence was just because the BBC had no adverts, so we had to pay for it, now if you watch just itv, you have to have one, so why the hell have people been watching adverts for all these years, lol

Just tell them you have a TV to watch pornographic movies only. BBC does not show pornography.

We have a similar thing in Japan for NHK services (the BBC of Japan) so when I came to the UK I wasn't too shocked about there being a license (although I think the word license is used as another scare tactic to make people feel they must have one in order to operate a TV)

YES I know you need a TV licence to watch anything live as it is broadcast on any device but this means zero to me because the BBC are not going to dictate to me (even if they do have the backing of the Government) what I can and can't watch live as it is broadcast without paying them first also I don't care if I am breaking the law by not complying with them as it is a stupid law that shouldn't exist in the first place and they can go and take their so called TV licence and stick it where the sun doesn't shine honesty I couldn't care less

Live time direct transmission viewing from certain media providers requires a TV licence.
However, if prerecorded and streamed playback, i.e. non direct live transmission viewing, then no licence required?

Here is a simple question. If the TV is installed with an aerial etc… and even capable of watching live TV, if I am not watching it then is that wrong? The law I believe says “Watching or recording etc…”. I’ve unplugged all mine, but a friend at work argues that his is installed, but he never watches it, so why pull all the cables?

I always thought the TV Lisence was basically all down to the fact the BBC doesn't show adverts on their channel. Yet the BBC do play their OWN "Ads", advertising their OWN programmes and Content.

The latest junk... 'Be prepared for this investigation to lead to prosecution'. Yawn. The shop hasn't had a TV for years and yet, they still churn out the same rubbish. Time TV Licensing was taken to Court for harassment, demanding money with menaces and a raft of other crimes. I can think of no other service that goes down this route. e,g, You don't get threatening letters from DVLA demanding road tax be paid if you don't have a car. TV Licensing letter is written by clowns and produced by school kids. Not one grown up in sight!

Heh, I haven't owned a TV receiver for 15 years and quit paying license fees back then too. I have Amazon prime and pay monthly for netflix. So if the licensing authorities even thought they should get something, they can merge with Netflix and siphon off some of their money!

What happens if the streaming signal is a live recording of an event or film. i.e It sends a signal to your TV that iis a recording of a recording. it buffers and then it repeats when the broad band is not good enough. My mate has a box that comes from ireleand and it seems to be a recording of a live programme and repeated as it happens but some time later. Is this a loophole. Can i get that box and watch TV. i basically watch you tube. I never watch any live news or BBC ANYTHING.
