It doesn't matter how anyone who is not a part of that culture percieves the treatment of Japanese WWII veterans who survived and returned home after the war.

Japan remains a stinking global disgrace. Unkike Germany, Japan has refused to make unequivocal apology for the gratuitous inhumanity of its state-manadated perfidies, atrocities and bestialities. This many play into the hands of the Americans, who work craftily to foment inter-Asian enmity, and who did nothing during their exclusive occupation of Japan to provide comprehensive historical accounts of Japan's sub-human activity during WWII to Japanese school students, but it does little to assuage the present concerns of people living in the better democracies around the world.

The major reason the bomb was dropped was because the incendiary bombing of Tokyo killed more than one million people. Tokyo was basically leveled. This just showed that the Japanese would not surrender and were too proud despite the annihilation/destruction of their main city. The bomb would kill fewer people and save more lives. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed just under 200’000 people. But it did so within a few seconds and leveling the whole cities. This was a destructive power like no other and Japan knew there was no way to defeat it.

They should have been glad to go home, like everybody else that survived that terrible war!

At least, the vast majority of, Japanese soldiers didn't wind up in cruel Russian concentration camps like the Germans did!

Please understand the feelings of people in their 20s who hear bad things about their country because of something that happened 80 years ago.

You had to have lived during the war. The bomb was another weapon to end the war. Really the rifle is a weapon to end the war. Hitler would have used it had the Nazi’s been able to hold on one more year. Possibly less. Every vet I ever spoke with said yes the bomb was a good choice. I agree. The next bomb will be hard to justify. I would expect it from a unstable third world leader. 😕

The question is not about war veterans. The question is who caused all the death and destruction? It was Emperor Hirohito. He was a god to the Japanese people. They did whatever he said. He could have chosen NOT to invade his neighbors, but he did. How many American men died because of him? That is another question.

To answer the question with a question. Did the Japanese soldiers treated their enemies and prisoners humanely? Unfortunately, some in the world today conveniently and expediently choose to forget the horrors the Japanese soldiers wrought on the world, especially on the Chinese, just simply because the Japanese now bow to them whereas the Chinese refused!

Its a shame how the US russia and its allies treated japanese POWs inhumanely. In the other hand who instigated japan to wage war against its enemies. The same questions of today why Hamas attack israel. When somebody severely oppressed by anybody in a long period of time do you think he will just sit and let his oppressor punished continously?

The comments I’ve read, which effectively celebrate the treatment of the Japanese military grunts after surrender, is horrifying. What the hell is wrong with you people? You have provided story after story of the family members you’ve heard from who’ve described their awful experiences, you stand on some invisible virtue wherein you claim to be unequivocally opposed to said experiences and yet you speak of your pleasure in the knowing of additional awful experiences. Ummmmm…. Make that make sense.

The Japanese veterans were treated MORE than fairly by the victorious allies. More "fairly" than the way they treated prisoners of war, and beyond fair than the way they treated the Chinese, Koreans, and the Philippine population. I cannot even imagine the additional horror they would have done to humans in the pacific theater if they had won!
