I Bought an iMac Pro DID I MAKE A MISTAKE?

lol, dont understand why so many people are hating on windows and pc now, when the problem is obviously the software developer... adobe in this case

I'm tired, TIRED of fighting with Adobe Premiere and After Effects on PC. If I respect myself and my time I wouldn't put up with this.

Did this purchase hold up over time? I ran into a post in a filmmaker group talking about how the $52k purchase is under $1k trade in now

Yeah I tried to use my gaming PC for Adobe Premiere. Keeps crashing all the time. Which led me to this video. I just have to bite the bullet if I'm going to do Premiere and buy a Mac

Thank you so much for this video. I'm an editor myself and I seriously thought there was just something wrong with footage, my RAM in my PC, and a bunch of other things. I started doing research and went, hmm, all of my artist friends have Macs for years and they work like a charm with Adobe products. It's like Adobe was built for Macs - and now I realize this after your video. Thanks so much. Now I have to save for a damn iMac Pro >_<

Maybe use DaVinci resolve, it will utilize all the hardware, also I would edit at half/quarter resolution or/and use proxies. If you drop a bunch of money to make editing better when it won’t change anything then why spend the money? I edit just fine on a 6-7 year old z77 hackintosh with an i5 3570k and just upgraded to an rx 580 and 24gb of ram. It works just fine, except I’m editing with braw which is highly efficient. It’s funny to think how our cameras can process the data but our computers can’t. If you have a computer that’s 5 years or newer and has a good Gpu then you’re fine. Edit with proxies like a civilized human lol.

Great video you gave some really good insight into the iMac pro computer, but I was also impressed with your professional knowledge of camera equipment and software. And I would like to know if you can recommend a good recording camera? My mom plays the Harp, and she is in the market for a quality camera but the sales listings on amazon don't seem to be of much help.

Honestly Devs makes a lot of money on Apple products, its way easier to develop apps on them because of the software and hardware integration and also Apple users are not cheap : ) lol pc/android fans triggered

Totally disagree with you. Should have looked into your settings and there are many videos and comparison where pc smokes the apple product with less or similar specs.

Well said sir. I love mac and imac. But PC is like a beast windows and linux has a millions of libraries to perform 10 times faster than mac. What happens here, the fight between amd and intel and nvidia gives rise to make dozens of hardwares within a month. Now its developers head ache to optimise their app for all new dozens of hardwares. It's obviously harder for them and they feel mac is easy and less headache. Someone has to convince amd, intel and nvidia to solve themselves and release 2-3 units per year like iPhone and samsung galaxy s. Then this issues resolved. Up to that selecting mac is a wise choice for professionals....

what kind of hard drive did you have back then when you did this review. how was the raw file being accessed? this can also come from loading from a regular hard drive and not SSD. just curious

That's ironic, because Adobe, upmostly premiere, has always been optimized more for Windows, and that's quite renown actually... this is very very curious

What people don't seem to understand is the Apple OS and apps are smaller and more efficient than Windows OS. Everyone tries to throw hardware at the problem but they forget that there is a lot more to I/O and performance than CPU's. Also, Adobe's business model and software sucks. I got tired of paying to be able to edit my own copyrighted work, crashing all the time and the lousy performance. I made the switch like many others to Davinci Resolve.

How times changed, there were time that adobe priority update support for pc over mac, which make apple furious, and start developed their own editing software.

Interesting. Because I use 4K 10 bit 4:2:2 400mbps GH5s .mov files on adobe premiere on an Imac and it sucks.. Then same imac I use DaVinci Resolve and it plays like butter. I use the same file and drop it in a HP Omen gaming laptop and both Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve play my GH5s files like butter. Just search google, Adobe premiere Panasonic GH5 10 bit mac problems... and you will find hundreds of articles how Adobe doesn't work on mac...

What specs on the IMP did you get? Did you upgrade any components? Looking to get one, I do mostly code and graphic work. Little video editing compared to graphics etc but I do still dabble in After Effects and Premiere from time to time.

DaVinci Resolve is amazing and it's FREE! Try that instead of FCPX.

Max Yuryev's comparison between $1300 8700K PC and a $5000 iMac Pro did not come to the same conclusion: PC comes out faster in Premiere and slower and Resolve.

How do you cope with the apple P3 vs adobe rec709 colour issue? Heaps of people have had issues with exporting h264 and getting very poor colour shifts after exporting - not matching what they saw in PP at all? I hadn't heard about the issue until i was using c200 at work with their iMac pro (2017 - 8c 128gb ram)
