Ignore all the negative comments. This is a beautiful instrument, as every other instrument is just as beautiful. People who judge culture and instruments based on their personal taste no nothing of respect and ethics.
ОтветитьNow that was an excellent introduction with generously illustrated by superb playing. Quite a treat, thank you!
ОтветитьHa use by date for dem gut strings really split my side...😂
ОтветитьI particularly enjoyed the last piece. ❤
ОтветитьThe tenor and treble viola are much larger than the viola and violin 😭
ОтветитьAre those plain gut strings on the basses? They seem to sound pretty well.
ОтветитьThat instrument looks like the lirone.
Ответитьwonderful, thank you
ОтветитьI have to admit that I've always found the sound of the viola da gamba a bit unsatisfying compared to the cello.
Ответитьsince they 'all have 6 strings' - could I play it since I've played guitar for about 30 years
? thnx
Louis Cole of viola da gamba
ОтветитьJust grow up and play a cello. This thing’s frets make it sound so terrible harsh and shrill. Not a fan.
ОтветитьMar.21/2023@2217. I'm hoping that once settled in 'heaven', alongside the horn this will be played by self. Until that marvelous day, your video surly inspires.
Ответитьyes sure you chend play olso baragues de titanos of avatar 2:))
ОтветитьGreat video! I became a fan of the viola da gamba through the recordings of the great Jordi Savall. Thank you for this introduction to the instrument!
Ответитьcan you stop the string by just touching it with your finger and then bowing, to get microtones before and after the frets?
ОтветитьBeautifully presented.
ОтветитьThose perfectly tuned moving double stops are pretty awesome.
Ответить"It has a warm sound that is very intimate in smaller space."
I live in a broom closet so that's perfect for me.
Great sound, interesting to see the expressivity and versatility of this instrument not to be forgotten !
ОтветитьThe viol family is really unique and versatile, I’m surprised it died out and I’m disappointed it’s such a rare type of instrument, I’d never heard of it before I got interested in how different baroque instruments are from modern day variants
ОтветитьThank you for including Marin Marais in this video!
ОтветитьVery nice.
ОтветитьSlightly odd question, but is the curve of the bridge low enough that more than two strings can be played at once? Or is it like the violin family, where only two strings can sound simultaneously?
ОтветитьThis sounds beautiful but it shouldn't be considered a viola. Because it's completely different. It should be considered as it's own instrument not as one that completely different...
ОтветитьIf you loan a viol to someone, does it become viol-lent? 😁
ОтветитьI...
Despise...
It...
hello colleague, I have a question: in what key does da gamba play? in the bass or in the tenor?
ОтветитьOne could spend half their life changing strings 😳
ОтветитьHow many inches, and how do you measure the size?
ОтветитьBeautiful instrument!
ОтветитьI like it when three or four viols are played (sans vibrato) as a choir. Each playing their part, only being louder when the part requires, then stepping back into line.
ОтветитьThe frets make it easier to play in tune and yes the Wood Violins company makes Electric versions of these instruments
ОтветитьLove the sound of the Viola De Gamba as well as the Lirone, they are so relaxing to listen to.
Hope these beautiful instruments become more popular. I love learning violin😁
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! What an incredible sound!
ОтветитьThis helped so much with my music history paper, thank you!
ОтветитьViolin Family: "Why can't you be normal?"
Viola De Gamba: "No."
Cellos and REAL VIOLAS are better than this nightmare fuel. Stay mad.
ОтветитьBurn it
ОтветитьThe gamba family came first. The violin family came about 40 years later.
ОтветитьSo basically its a 6-7 string cello with half frets? You could probably add frets to a normal cello and kinda get the same result?
ОтветитьBravo!!!! Bravo 🙌🏻 🙏😇
ОтветитьVery interesting! What tuning does it use for the frets? equal temperament, or some antique tuning?
Ответитьsuch a shock to the modern eye it appears like a frankenstein instrument, something between a guitar, cello, harp, double bass, lute and i dont know what.. a harpsichord maybe!
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful and versatile instrument! And what beautiful pieces! This really makes me interested in exploring more music for it.
ОтветитьWhat beats me is how his fingers can remember two utterly different scales and tunings (cello and gamba)...
ОтветитьI play the Oboe and English Horn and I cant understand how to properly play string instruments, but I'd certainly love a chance to learn.
