This is a really complex topic. In principle no human is harmed because it is all artificial, however there is a possibility that it could stimulate users to acts in the real world. There is also the possibility that it would serve as an alternative to acts in the real world. I don't know which is true. More broadly, should people be convicted of victimless crimes ? What should the crime be - designing the avatars, viewing them, or controlling their actions ? We will probably have mind-reading technology soon. Should people be convicted for thinking about illegal things ? This is going to be a problematic legal issue for a long time.

AI will become the third world war - there will be good AI and there will be bad AI - good humans should focus on developing the good; evil humans will (are) working on the bad. What is in play is in play. There is no going back. You can only go foward. AI is a solution, and a curse.

There are so many comments from people that think that this kind of content shouldn't be illegal because it may create less harm to the real children. That's quite naïve to think like that. Do you know how machine learning works? They learn on the the REAL content created by people then generate from it their new artificial content. To improve the quality of the generated content the machine needs more and more REAL materials to learn and memorize so that's how the quality for generated content can improve. So it will cause even more demand for creating the real materials so later it will be used for machine learning as well. So it's definitely will be illegal, and not just this kind of content but also just any generative images itself. Those companies are in trouble now because they have several lawsuits against them because of using private data and data of many people without their consent and permission to generate images and make a big profit from that.

I didn't know these images were illegal. Obviously the acts would be if they really happened. There are drawings from Japan and fictional stories. Smells like a smear campaign against AI in general in attempt to put restrictions on it.
