9 months later, no 7900M or 7800M yet in consumer hands, AMD is so bad at this.

Tbf, it is not quite "higher numer eqiuals better performance anymore" but you Actually know what you're bying just by looking at the chip. No more mixing architectures like in 5800u being zen3 and 5700u being zen 2. One could simply not know this just from the number. Now its clear. But yes, having a bigger number in the front will still be a major selling factor and now this first number says basically nothing about the CPU other than it is an AMD ZEN CPU (or are Athlons not Zen?).

Thank you for this video. Really slimy tactics from these manufacturer's, can't believe people are being duped into paying top dollar for CPU tech years old.

This is annoying. I wish laptop makers would just launch laptops with the 7840HS and no dGPU. Most users don't use their laptops for gaming and cooling a 35W chip would be relatively easy even in an ultrabook.

RDNA 3 APUS:
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7940HS - 8 CPU / 12 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS - 8 CPU / 12 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U - 8 CPU / 12 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 5 7640HS - 6 CPU / 8 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 5 7640U - 6 CPU / 8 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 5 7540U - 6 CPU / 4 GPU
AMD Ryzen™ 3 7440U - 4 CPU / 4 GPU

All other SKUs are using RDNA 2.

12 CUs (GPU) = Performance slightly better than an AMD RX 570 GPU.

I want a laptop with a 99.9Whr battery, a Ryzen 6800H, 2 x memory slots, user-replaceable WiFi module, 2 x m.2 slots, a 500 nit 165Hz 16 inch panel that has a 60Hz option, very simple and plain white back-lighting with accurate brightness control, at least one USB 4 port, runs cool and quiet, and has good Linux compatibility.

That is all...

Yeah its a bit scammy to rename everything back to Zen 2 as 7000 series. Manufactures have taken full advantage of that and branded machines with several year old hardware with a Ryzen 7000 sticker. On the other hand none of these chips are bad if the price is right this isnt so much of an issue. I actually thought it was worse when they put Zen 2 chips into the 5000 line up. For example 5600u was Zen 3 and 5500u was Zen 2 and unlike in the new naming scheme there was nothing in the name to reflect it back then.

Wish I saw this before 3 days ago when I purchased a laptop running a 7735HS. The naming is a stupid way of literally throwing old chips into new computers. I don't delve in the computer realm very often, but last I checked in the 6k and older chipsets the higher the number is better, and always ment the latest generation; no matrixes to tell me what bingo cells means what performance. I am rather pissed I bought a Zen 3+ chip rather than a Zen 4.

finally someone talking about the extremely bad naming schemes from AMD.

How the fuck they were able to make an already bad naming scheme worse I don't understand.

Where is Ryzen 6000 for desktop ??? Why the fuck does a buyer need to know about Zen and Ryzen naming difference ??? Crazy af!!!

Ah, the drama... No, AMD classification or architecture are not confusing at all, it's just multilayered. And, no, 7645 is not the same as the 7845 (are you guys out of your mind?...). This video is much ado about nothing...

While everybody is waiting for zen 4 laptops, they released 4 years old cpu rebadged. They haven't even published 7040u datasheet. I think Lisa Su should step down and AMD should find a proper CEO.

I really appreciate this informative video! AMD keeps paper launching U series and it's getting annoying. It's nearly impossible to find any non-gaming mainstream laptops with 6000U series. 7000 series is going to be basically non-existent for anything other than gaining laptops. Ryzen 5000 and zen 3 will remain the status quo deep into 2023. What are they doing?
