I wonder what will happen to those who pay $5 a month through their DTV Stream subscription for HBO Max.

I’ll stay on the current ad-supported plan. The value to upgrade to one of the ad-free tiers isn’t there.

We get HBO max free through spectrum with our condo association I wonder how that’s going to work out when they change your plans I’m legally blind, so 4K video doesn’t mean much to me. I can barely see hi definition lol

This whole merge is so odd why can discovery plus customers have the option to keep discovery plus only if they want but hbo max users have to just roll with whatever the combo looks like …makes about as much sense as killing the hbo name smh

Still haven't heard anything about use AT&T internet users who currently get HBO Max for free. I also subscribe to Discovery+, so I'm not sure what I'll end up with.

I tried HPO Max, found it good for a few shows but bored with it quickly, now I see a couple new shows I find interesting and wonder if there’s a limit on the number of times you can stars and stop subscriptions.

A minor note of interest: AT&T says I will get to keep "Max" as I am grandfathered in with my 1 GB fiber internet... but if I go down in speed I CAN'T get it back, as they're not offering it anymore.

As to whether I'll get the HD or 4K version, I don't know yet. My current package doesn't have ads, so I assume I won't be moved to the ads tier.

I was actually considering downgrading my internet, but this kept me from it.

I don’t see what the problem is with the new MAX subscription because I paid $99 for a year’s subscription with commercials to HBOMAX, which is exactly what the new plan is for MAX. As for 4K HD, what people don’t realize is that you would have to have a HUGE movie theater size screen to take advantage of noticing the improved difference of 4K HD, which nearly everyone doesn’t have in their homes.

$199 annual is quite hefty for most users:cost ratio that want 4K UHD with the Dolby magic words. Guess I’ll just have to switch back and forth between the different hbo tiers as well as other streaming services. Or skip few months during streaming droughts and buy 4K uhd discs.

@ROGU3L3PHANT

no one should ever have to pay to watch ads. also if I am forced to pay extra for 4k content then every piece of content that comes out better be available in 4k. also what about HDR? HDR is an even bigger deal than higher resolution and adds even more to the viewing experience I would argue. I heard new shows like the latest season of succession are not even in 4k. why are TV companies even releasing 4k televisions if only a small percentage of people will even be able to afford or are willing to pay the premium for 4k content. shouldn't TV manufacturers like LG and Samsung be angry about this? why would the majority of customers buy expensive 4k televisions if when they take them home the content they watch doesn't look close to the potential of the television. Most non tech people may not understand why the content they watched on the TV in best buy doesn't look as good at home. I can see people blaming the TV manufacturers instead of the streaming services. If this kind of resolution gatekeeping continues then television manufacturers should rightly be pissed off that all the R&D into newer better panel technologies only gets undercut by content providers. logically you shouldn't save your money to buy an OLED or mini LED TV only to find out your going to be screwed over for adopting new/better technology. At the very least gamers wont care but everyone else may. Especially when everyone blames them for the less than optimal picture quality from their new thousand plus dollar TV they saved months for only to find they are punished monetarily for adopting it. at the very least 2k content with HDR should become the bare minimum standard to help the 4k upscaling that is still hit or miss depending on the manufacturer.

this is what a streaming model should look like in 2023.

HD = free/or damn near close to free with ads (Maybe you have to wait 6 months to a year for newer content to reach this level from release).
2k with HDR = standard pricing
4k with HDR = premium pricing

anything less is ridiculous.
the fact that 2k isn't even considered a viable option from any streaming service is a complete joke.
its the sweet spot where all content should be striving to be at, at a minimum. 2k was completely jumped over and the brains in tech and entertainment went straight to 4k and now they are making the customer suffer for it like it wasn't their fault in the first place.

20$ a month lol..... like all streaming services just subscribe watch all the content and cancel. Wait for more content 6 months later and sub for a month. When streaming was cheap it was more of a bother to cancel than let it auto charge. Not anymore, people ditched cable because it was expensive. Now these companies want you to pay the same NOT HAPPENING, unless of course the sheep just accept it.

The new max app crashed my Roku. It took hours of support calls to get access back to my Roku. Obviously I will not be returning for that and a few others. I certainly not paying to get 4K or high quality. You would think they would want their content viewed in the best possible quality for the best experience. Ufff, hard pass. The switch to HBOmax was painful and this transition is unforgivable. Their message to me as a consumer is clear, it's going to be bad and that's just what they have to offer going forward. At least they dropped HBO from the name because it was synonymous with high-quality which is not what they intend

Meh...so I have to pay $4 more a month to get the 4k content I had before the switch. But I was able to drop Discovery+ altogether since that content moved to Max. At the end of the day I pay a couple dollars less for the same content. Who is gonna miss $2 in a month? I sure won't.
