With consistent Sadhana, Pranayama naturally transitions into Pratyhara. after ~2 hours of focused Pranayama, it takes about 20 minutes just to re-orient to the external world..
For example, I can't simply open my eyes. It requires covering my eyes with my hands and slowly creating gaps for light to gently hit my eyes. ( 'withdrawal of eyesight')

Appetite & need for food decreases. The mind starts experiencing the body as a cause-effect machine, so healthier food choices are automatically chosen. Rarely eating for taste, but instead for the nutrients and thinking of the effects a food will have on the body. ( 'withdrawal of the taste sense')

This requires shifting life from a Bhogi to a Yogi (indulger to seeker)

It baffles me how it’s apparently so hard to include the source, basic details, or at the very least the name of the speaker in the video title or at least in the lengthy description

Something I have been experiencing. For ages, withdrawal from my senses. Literally from 15, and now I'm 24, this year 25 😂❤️🌌🌠.

The senses are not designed to mislead. The brain can received only 10% of senses inputs, and re-construct those 10% inputs. That becomes 100% reality for each person. This is what is called world is Illusion.

deep misunderstanding of Pratyahara and Patanjali. misunderstanding of the role of senses. misunderstanding the difference between sensations and perceptions, basically, this guy act like he knows what he is talking about, but he clearly does not.

Even the manifestations as Prophets and sages to restore balance on earth is a maya and that is why they are yogmaya. Maya means "what is not" or "what seems to be" not the reality. That is why Krishna is God's manifestation or yogmaya not God Himself. Krishna took birth, ate and took rest, made mistakes, made right decisions and even died. So Krishna was not God but God's Prophet, Messenger, Bhagavan or Sage. When Krishna spoke he spoke sometimes as a medium of God and sometimes as a human. People get confused by this type of humans and their words because sometimes they speak from God as "first person" and sometimes as "second person or third person" while delivering God's messages. Reality or God doesn't have a form. Building statues or artwork depicting those Messengers doesn't depict God. It isn't even the Messengers because those Messengers died and these statues or artworks are imaginations of how they looked like not themselves in flesh and bones. You can give puja or in other words show respect to a living Messenger but how can you give puja to a statue or image? This act itself is adharma because it denied reality and follows maya...

Love everything around you, animate and inanimate, unconditionally , the doors of the eternal opens , the unifying light floods in. If our senses are creating the distractions then Patanjali is there to help us control them. Even after controlling senses we have to unify ourselves with the eternal and that is possible only through identification with the ONE and universal love is the only practical way. The rest is a self oriented spiritual goal .

We consider 4 imp steps Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama or the art of control of prana/ impulses. These impulses are received from :-
1. Food & Drink
2. Breathing
3. the sensations of sound, smell, touch, taste & sight.

The fifth step is Pratyahara. All the 4 steps together form the art of Pratyahara.
The 4 steps bring one to the bank of a river. Then there is the river & then there is the other bank. One the other side is the master waiting for the sincere disciple to come. the disciple has after a long journey come to the bank of the river. This river we call as fifth step of Pratyahara. What is then pratyahara? We can say it is the process of collecting the powers of the mind and restraining them from going out to external objects.

Insightful. It resonates with my understanding. It's getting more and more in these experiences. The more we can first withdraw from the sense objects, and then the senses, we develop resilience against bad habits.
