Great review of linux and steamdeck.
ОтветитьHey I think the sponsorship is cool and interesting, I'd prefer the disclosure to come before either you start talking about it or before the video starts just for personal awareness
ОтветитьSounds like if you’re just browsing the web and sending emails it’s totally usable
ОтветитьJust an fyi on Linux there is a program called Solaar that can combine Logitech unifying receivers so you can bundle them on a single receiver to free up a USB port or two. It's really a nice program. Really great to see you be so positive abouth the Linux desktop and be willing to truly give it a try. After being in Linux space for so long, I can't take Windows - too much is beyond the user control, while in Linux land there are always at least 3 ways to accomplish something - AND updates don't get shoved down your throat when you least expect.
ОтветитьThe nvme will never run at full speed because of latency issues.
ОтветитьI would love to use just steam os. But I'm testing on my laptop. On the deck I downloaded windeck. Debloated windows. I recommend 100%! If you like the light weight Linux and hate windows's bloatwares and love the deck.
Ответить4k for me is super overkill... Also I really trying to save power. The steam deck is perfect for that :) awesome
ОтветитьI noticed last night after a prolonged session of Black Mesa that my Valve dock was getting kinda warm. Not as hot as the pine64 one did before (probably not made for this much power input), but still toastier than I'd have thought. Be nice if these aluminium ones can stay cooler.
Ответитьnice china-indus
ОтветитьBro why do you sound like AI when you're talking.
ОтветитьThis type of video is exactly what I was looking for. My PC died and I was considering getting a Deck to replace it. I think it'll cover most of my needs though I'm still a bit undecided as I want to use it mostly as a docked PC.
Ответитьcould you use the JSAUX dock to have a windows installation running over the USB C port?
ОтветитьI'm tempted by this dock but heard they can cause thermal throttling and eventual shut down.
ОтветитьThis review clearly shows that Steamdeck is quite suitable for people who would be thinking more about if they could rather if they should.
Nonetheless, it's clear that aside of it being a mobile system not really designed for heavy workload, it does all these tasks rather well and in case of person having one work pc that dies for some reason, Steamdeck could be proper alternative. Not that it should be that alternative.
did you know windows can run on the steamdeck
Ответитьlistening to this vid while playing quake 2 on my deck
honestly, just being able to play all these old game in this new cool way is amazing, gyro controls are the only thing even remotely approaching the precision of a mouse
your problem with kden live gave me flashbacks to highschool in tv production class when final cut pro in 2008 was doing the same thing so save early save often lives in my head after that
ОтветитьNext time I get a Steam deck I'll definitely get this dock!
ОтветитьI just got my steam deck and youre the first person I could think of!
Ответитьsomeone using a steam deck as their main pc reminds me of someone still using a 10 year old pc.. telling me "well it does what I need it to do" as they wait 10 minutes for something to load
ОтветитьAs a long-time Linux enthusiast, it makes me really happy to see people outside the circle using it.
ОтветитьI’ve been away from my set up cause I’m living with my gf, and been using my steam deck for all my work with no problems! It’s such a useful little machine.
ОтветитьKDE Plasma looks really nice
ОтветитьThis guys videos are so easy to understand. And he goes into details of the device that I don’t see anywhere else. I subbed
ОтветитьThe one thing that's preventing me from buying a JSAUX dock is the requirement of Windows for any firmware updates. I have no inclination to buy a Windows license just for those updates. If that changes, I might consider them.
Also, the rendering time issue has more to do with Kdenlive not having hardware acceleration. It's something the developers have planned, but for now, it's just slow software rendering.
Windows DOES work perfectly on the Steam Deck.
Dual boot "not worth the cost". I don't understand. Windows is free to dload and setup on the Steam Deck on screens under 8 inchs. Plus to dual boot it's simply a case of holding down volume down and press the ON/OFF switch until you here a beep. Once the screen appears select the micro SD. Only cost is the Micro SD.
There's about 3 other drivers to install and that's it. Trust me if I can do it, anyone can! 🙂
I can understand you not wanting to bother but please just say that, don't lie.
The reality is, there was no need for an nvme in a dock.. It can't utilize the speed, especially when using the other docked peripherals.. SATA would have been sufficient. You can see this when you showed the files transferring. Nvme=gimmick for people who don't realize this.
ОтветитьValve have really raised the bar with their product. Nintendo will have to work allot harder now.
ОтветитьA laptop is better !🤷♀🤷♀!!!!
ОтветитьI am so pissed this video wasn't in my feed and had to manually look for it!
ОтветитьWhat's the folding keyboard he used?
ОтветитьYou have a mountain of junk behind you, not sure if you were aware.
ОтветитьI just realize 64gb and 256gb version is basically same, and those 64gb emmc can swap with any nvme cards...
ОтветитьThis is a dumb question, but when downloading programs outside of steam on the deck, do you download the Windows or Linux version? Does the compatibility with windows programs extend beyond steam games?
Ответитьdang, this dock is really good and cheaper than the official dock.
ОтветитьI almost bought that same mouse, but I went for the G502 light speed. By far, and in every way the best mouse I've ever owned. I just had to say something, it's awesome lol.
ОтветитьSteam Deck is amazing! I can't wait for the next iteration of it with maybe USB4!
ОтветитьIt's funny to think that the Steam Deck outperforms my first PC
ОтветитьSo we're not going to talk about how this looks noticeably worse than normal. I love my steam deck but I'm not delusional.
ОтветитьNow this is technology, something so compact and bloody powerful, now it's only a matter of perfecting this to the extreme.
ОтветитьKdenlive......... make proxy clips before editing. You might get better performance using "simple screen recorder" over OBS.
ОтветитьThe deck does have problems don't get it twisted.i have one I know
ОтветитьAmazing. You're a stud YongYea. I rarely disagree with your takes and I love your passion and commitment to excellence you are a special part of the video game universe and community and I love your content and your voice is wonderful. Keep up the great work!
ОтветитьAs someone who has been exclusively using Linux for a year now I don't see myself ever having to go back to Windows if it carries on at this rate.
ОтветитьI m so mad i can t have it in my country
ОтветитьA bootable windows microsd is worth it. Its how I play mw2 and other games that aren't supported by Linux or due to dumb anticheat software that auto flags and won't let you. I wish I could get that dock for cheaper too. Good chance I'd download most of my steam library and then get a second m.2 for my windows mode. Mw2 runs fine off a microsd, but can't help but think everything would be faster if I placed it on an external or m.2 so the os has more space.
ОтветитьLinux desktop 🖥️ is now seemless. O frequently forget that I’m using Linux Mint.
With 30 mbs+ connection using Linux as thin client is a no brainer.
Value of Steam Deck vs Laptop?
I will probably buy a Steam Deck.
Nice proof of concept. Not optimal but appears to work in a pinch!
