I love watching your videos and I learn so much. I have my driving test in mid June. A few weeks ago, I was so nervous and anxious that I keep making mistakes, overthinking and my instructor made me park and talk about what I was thinking. I cried for ten minutes as my instructor wanted me to let it out. That cry out was so needed. Over the period of my next few lessons, I don’t know why but I was in my best independent driving. I no longer feel anxious. All I needed to do is let out all my fears. Now I understand that this is how I should feel when I drive, relaxed and chill. Weirdly to say this, I’m actually looking forward to my test.

Thank you very much for giving advices on how to calm down before road test. I've watched this video the night before the test and it helped me calm down and relax. I've passed the test first try today. Wish everyone good luck on their tests, don't worry, you've got this, just believe in yourself!

3rd try today! So determined that today is gonna be the day. Both times before I’d made silly mistakes due to nerves but I’ve woken up today feeling excited and positive. Hopefully I can come back to this later and tell you all I’ve done it!

I passed in the first attempt, and was relying on your amazing videos and practicing myself more than the classes. Thank you so much for the fantastic explanations on each and every video. Also a couple of things that helped me to be relaxed during the test was putting on music with low voice and also keeping my window open to feel the air. Hope this helps others too. Considering that I'm really bad at staying relaxed in such situations.

Finally someone that might help me for this week failed in January due to nerves as I made one mistake and in my head I had failed and had 5 minutes where I made mistakes and got 2 majors however the mistake I made wouldn’t have cost me and it’s what happened after that cost me

Failed my driving test today,I took 3rd exit from left lane, but the examiner was so rude,he even didn't say hello to me,he was very very very rude, when he told me I failed the test he was just looking on his tab,and just leave the car,I drove really good cause I have one 2 minor faults, but it so uncomfortable to sit in car with a very rude old examiner.

I passed my test last Wednesday on my 2nd attempt. Everything Richard said is true in my opinion. Especially, not trying to impress your examiner. You should be test ready, so give it your absolute best and see what happens at the end. All you can do is give it your best. Luck does play apart as well, I had 4 minors and I knew when I made one, and I just put it behind me. Had I focused on it, I may well have caused a serious. However, I was able to focus on what was happening in front of me. Remember, you will only pass the test by taking it anyway.

Great video, thanks for sharing your experience with us and reminding us that even instructors and the best drivers out there are equally as human as us learners/new drivers.

I'm still 3 months away from my test, and only 10 houra of lessons in. Instructor says I'm well ahead of most people at this stage but I typically overthink things and notice that when I make one small mistake, that spirals into more mistakes or losing concentration on road position etc.

That part about forgetting your mistake is vital, because pondering something that might only be a minor can distract you into making a more serious fault later in your test.

The bit where you said we often have a mentality of “I want to pass first time” but then realising “no one cares if you past first time” is so true and made me actually really feel chill about that and not worrying if I maybe need another shot at my test if I failed. It’s no one’s business.

i had the same examiner on both of my tests and she was terrifying, anyone i know who had her for their test failed and then passed the next time when they had a different examiner. my face when she walked out and shouted my name again for my second test was hilarious. i gave up after failing again and im now finally going through with my test almost 10 years later, luckily for me now shes no longer alive (is that bad?) but just thinking about her makes me nervous for my test haha. i think she'll be haunting me on my test in a few months🤣

3/5 breathing if feeling stressed. 3 seconds in 5 seconds out breath... Repeat it a few times and it switches the nervous system to a calmer state

Try it now for a minute or so

The pressure thing reminds me of when I took the test for driving a lorry. Had to pass the test that exact day, the next day some EU legislation would be ratified and I'd have to go through an extra curriculum to work as a lorry driver, which I had to pay for myself. Several grand, most likely. I failed in under 1 minute. I almost drove out in front of another truck when exiting the parking lot the test started on. The examiner had to intervene. Utter failure. I didn't drive very well thereafter either. Luckily he agreed to give me another chance and take a subsequent test directly after, which I passed. Such a clutch moment.

Hi! I've been watching a lot of your videos on the run up to my test and they've all been really helpful, especially this one as I felt really nervous about taking my test! I took my test this morning and passed first time with zero faults, and I'm sure your videos were a major reason that I passed so I just wanted to say a big thank you! After my initial nerves, my driving this morning actually felt really natural and in a strange way I sort of enjoyed it!

To those taking their test soon, remember that you don't have to be perfect, as long as you are safe and legal then you are more than likely to pass. My best piece of advice is to trust your instincts, take it steady and if you're not sure about something slow down or even stop. In another of this channel's videos, he said to remind yourself that you are a chauffeur, not a taxi - try to be as smooth as possible even if it means you're not the fastest. So if you can, try and get a bit of driving in before the test, take a few deep breaths before you begin and just focus on being safe, even if it means you have to wait an extra five minutes at a busy junction! Good luck to those taking their tests in the future, you can do it!😊

Hello, Richard. Thank you so much for your videos; not just this one but all in your channel. They are all very useful and I usually watched your videos after the relevant lessons to grab a deeper understanding. I am a slower learner (learned 80 hours plus 10 hours parking practice with a family member), but I passed my test today at the 1st attempt. Thank you for my instructor and your channel!

My own nervousness was attacking in my stomach. It was as if I haven't eaten for the past 3 days. I couldn't sleep then I came across this video early morning yesterday around 4am while my test was 7:23am 25th September 2024. After watching this video and some comments, I opened my bible to philippians 4:13 " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens."
I kept ringing it in my mind all through the test. That helped me to get rid of nervousness despite the fact that the examiner took me to a different route I didn't practice in, God still helped me to pass.
Thanks everyone for your input

I"m 55 years old with a now expired UK driving licience. Living and driving in Slovenia for 4 years. Currently trying to get a Slovenian driving licience. Done the medical, done the first aid done the theory. Half way through mandatory 20hrs lessons. I have to say the prospect of the test is making me very nervous. I would very much appreciate you perhaps sharing your thoughts and experience with the differences of EU driving. Eg, did you know it is a fault to signal on approach to a roundabout when going left or final exit? Ie no signal on approach just signal on exit.

The thing is when you are doing your driving lessons with your instructor it feels quite relaxed you are just chatting normally. But when you have your test it feels very pressurised. The examiner doesn't say a lot you don't know them. You have never driven in the car with them before so you don't know what to expect.
