I'm currently reading "The Sabres of Paradise" by Lesley Blanch and I'm fascinated with this area, the history and the life of Imam Shamyl. I only wish it were safe to travel and explore in the region but clearly it's not.

Imam Shamil was a hero, not a terrorist. He struck fear in the hearts of his enemy, he fought for truth and justice, he was not a tyrant nor did he kill innocent civilians. Get your wording and narrative straight..... don't fall victim to western propaganda and anti Islam fervour..
