'The Unknown Citizen' by W.H. Auden is a whimsical satire which scares some people because it was written by a man who understood how the government and powers actually monitor and manage mass populations. But he was protesting it by revealing this information in the form of a whimsical satire.

ОтветитьYou mentioned twice that 'we live in a free society' - so we can see that he is brainwashed, implying that we are not. I wouldn't be so comfortable with stating that so leisurely.
That phrase "free society" is like something that should make us behave as Pavel's dogs, conforming to the notion that we actually live in a free society. The reasearchers into Public Opinion would be content with our proper reaction to these advertisments.
explanation of the poem could have much deeper, but it was helpful.
