Marlon Brando's hippie bullshit. For one, its not just americans who put people's abilities on a scale, and judge them based on merit, but more importantly it has lots of value. It allows the people competing and honing their craft to create goals for themselves to strive for, it allows the people deciding and enjoying other people's craft to give respect and admiration to whomever they deem "the best", and lastly it's can be incredibly engaging and fun to discuss with one another who is the best, and why.

Competition is healthy and important. Its only bad if you allow it to negatively consume your emotions and stunt your happiness instead of promoting it.
