Why not patented? Firstly, your grip on what a patent is seems quite wrong. To add to this, what is done here is also wrong. A really bad way to fix the problem, using even worse methods. I will give some credit to the simplicity in the method of figuring out the dead LED. As for the rest, well... the wagging finger as if to say this is correct as opposed to other methods; it makes the whole practice offensive. Boo! This should be taken down not only for safety reasons but also for putting shame on the maker community.

This isn't necessary. I have 2 old bulbs and 1 new LED in the same light fixture. The new LED is the brightest. They're made better than before so now I'm not worried about replacing with all LEDS.

I love these video hacks . If you have an understanding of how things work , there's nothing wrong in being smart enough to repair them. But when it comes to electrical , do not try to save a buck by duplicating a hack like this. Go buy a new bulb. Don't be like that Mexican dude that put a charcoal BBQ in his house to provide heat.
