Interesting video. The music level over the narrator's voice is a bit loud, makes it difficult for us older folks.

Only in America you are still a slave no land were forced to creat bruts who can work the fields and the music that goes along with it sad the brute gens still lingers on in some peoples in the Afro communitys your not free thats sad still in the dna thats bad thats why European descendants are looked upon suspiciously that is sad although we should stop seeing it that way it's just hard not to after living in ghettoes and filth yeah all of these people I see them in the West in the ghetto. Open your eyes you see them too. So people with that Said lets change things for the better two slaves cannot make babies because they will become the same as the parents brutes and slaves change that even if it means you have to mix to get the brute gene out of them give them a chance in life.

I'm a Pacific Islander myself. And pretty much everything that is happening in this video, we do it at my place in Micronesia. The lamentation though, that's a surprise right there. People do cry, perhaps a couple of old mothers, especially at the beach front when visitors or loved ones are about to leave, but not like this: the entire group weeping? I really was taken aback... quite a bit unnerving, to be honest. But very interesting culture though. Very good video.

It must be so nice living a simple lifestyle. They may not have access to things as much as the western world does, but they are a lot happier than most of us are.

It seems that when white people visit a remote island they are just interested by showing themselves up in the video like aliens or navigators exploring new lands in a colonial era and showing themselves as the centre of the world.

I am a bit concerned regarding the poor condition of coral cover on the reefs as seen in the footage. Has the community noticed a decline due to mass bleaching? The result can be ciguatera, fish flesh toxin, and I wonder if that has become a problem on the reefs?

As an Islander from the Marianas, one who grew up also in Hawaii, the spirit of Aropa seems to me to come from the same root as the spirit of Aloha, a spirit of welcoming and unity. I miss home, but home has not been home for a long time, so I miss a time and a spirit but not a place. I wouldn't last long here, anyway. I am too restless.

The argument does not hold water. water
The argument is a non-sequitur.
A. Polynesians could find Hawaii, 1000 miles from the nearest island.
B. Polynesian enemies of Anutans could not find an island only 75 miles away.

The argument Is untenable.
Considering the claims that Polynesian s could find islands by navigating by the stars, winds, and sea current reflection waves and currents,
how come their enemies could not find Anuta?
The argument is facetious, spurious and totally illogical.

Please do prove me wrong.

Common sense tells us that if these people knew where this island was and nobody else did, and nobody else could find the island, and it's only 75 miles from the nearest island , and nobody else could find it, but they could find Hawaii, which is 1000 miles from Midway Is., I have a bridge I can sell you.

The Pacific Ocean is 63 million square miles of water. Hawaii is 1000 miles from the nearest island. Amelia Earhart with radio navigation equipment on a plane couldn't find Howland Island. The Japanese couldn't find Hawaii in WW2 unless they homed In on an am radio station In Honolulu. Gimme a break. The U.S. Midway pilots couldn't even find the Japanese fleet unless they followed a lone Japanese destroyer. Gimme a break.

A touching documentary on how a community that used to be completely integral with nature is transforming towards being a part of the global society. Where food security is more and more guaranteed by the global society and where population is no longer a measure of natural resources in the immediate reach. With this transformation comes also the sacred ideological dependency on the Society - the cocoon protecting all, which at the same time will demand rent payment in the form of individual time investments from the people. And they do feel the increasing dependency - hence the concerns about decreasing privacy mentioned in the beginning. I am genuinely worried about their fate from now on.
Peace be upon you all!
