What's your most disturbing Karate myth? 🥋
ОтветитьI had a myth in my mind that , karate can be learned only when we are young (like at least 20+).
ОтветитьThe myth I find disturbing is that the "screaming has no use"...
If you are in someones face and they hit you while letting out a yell.
This does a few things:
1. It draws attention to you, which is situational of course, but in an event that someone suddenly tried to pull you from the public eye, the benefit is obvious that others will take notice more easily if someone is making a loud yell.
2. It tends to put the opponent in a state of shock or surprise if they're unaware of it. Imagine you meant to attack someone and they scream, setting you into a flinch and whilst doing so they're striking and grabbing at you. With motions they've rehearsed many times over.
3. If someone you knew(or some innocent person) got attacked and you show up punching kicking and screaming, that is a bad day for the other guy. They wont know what the heck just happened to them.
Now I digress, this is situational, use awareness and this should actually help.
As the video says, keep it simple and don't overdo it.
I never practiced karate (I have practiced pencak silat for 30 years), but what I always find disturbing is that people tend to believe when they practice a martial art, they assume that they can hold one self when they are attacked out of the bleu. What worries me most is that there are schools who give self-defense courses of 10 or so lessons. People who attend these courses usually learn some basic moves and that's it. To hold ones own in a attack is not about the tricks you know, it's more about your frame of mind how you deal with a stress-situation. Just because you've learned some nice tricks in a controled situation doesn't mean you will apply them effectively; that's a myth.
ОтветитьThank you Jesse really enjoy watching your vids. Definitely thinking about starting back training but I’m 66 now. Still giving it some thought. Thank you Peace
ОтветитьLove seeing shots from Asato Dojo in there.
ОтветитьJesse I think your idea of karate or the high kicks of karate coming from SAVAT is completely wrong it was from MASATOSI NAKAYMA who btought it from China
ОтветитьCongratulations. I am karate sensei in Spain. You are doing a very good work about martial arts. And specific congratulations because this video about myths. It`s claire, honest and motivator, causing nonsense to fall from the collective imagination and legends. We need persons like you in martial arts. Please, continue like this. Health, luck and succeses.
ОтветитьYes, Karate was not invented by farmers, however if I recall correctly Okinawans had their own technique PRE-JAPANESE invasion, called Shuri-te, which by my understanding is the ancestor of Okinawan Karate, Dear Jesse, correct me if I'm wrong.
ОтветитьJust found this vid and have my own opinion on the last myth
Karate is and isn't hard
BEFORE ANYONE KILLS ME Im actually lazy to explain
Really nice vodeo. Thanks
ОтветитьDid you just squeeze the word "chanpurū (champloo)" into this narrative- I doff my cap to you sir.
There's a bit of a kick-back "myth" TODAY that female martial artists can't defeat men because physically they aren't as strong. Strength, well yes strength is a force in the equation, but as we know speed is the force multiplier in a strike, and my evidence is that when I was 15, the girls in my dojo were also breaking the 1inch boards like the guys (and not even all the guys could break a board). If the girls back then hit you, you felt it. Now I'm not saying they would win a brawl, but if that got a shot in, they could take you out.
Damn, so all the masters belong to upper eshellon of ritsuryo class system that existed back than. That class system was worst kind that i know of because if you were at the bottom of that system you were basicaly a slave. There were 8 castes or classes in that system if i recall correctly. Karate is still usefull for self defense but you need to be creative with it on streets because there are no rules. Not everything from karate can be usefull so you need to be creative.
ОтветитьI just want you to make an elaborated video about kyukushine kai kan, or sihan masutatsu Oyama
ОтветитьHi
Ответить"You wear a GI". A Japanese would say: "You wear a Do-Gi".
ОтветитьGreat video! Thank you, Sensei!
ОтветитьWhen I was talking Shito Ryu as a kid. Their color for the first level after white was red, any idea why?
Ответитьin the beginging the was NO COLOURED BELT, they became black as it got dirty as that was the only part of GI you didn't wash
ОтветитьThe sound level on this one is sky high! Nearly blew my ears!
ОтветитьIf you want a sport, learn Karate. If you want self defence, learn Krav Maga.
ОтветитьVince morris is the real deal for karate imho
ОтветитьMyth: There's a best martial art. It's the practioner not the practice that makes the best martial art.
ОтветитьThere is no such thing as a false fact. It is per definition an oxymoron…
ОтветитьThe "Drum Tecnique" works. So does wax on, wax off.
ОтветитьIncredible Jesse, if there was such a thing as a doctorate or thesis level PhD in Karate in the western world, you surely should have one and be lecturing as a professor about karate in academic circles. Can;t wait for your TedX lecture if you do one...how exciting it would be with live demonstrations during the lecture...
ОтветитьOur kyokushin dojo starts using weapons Kata at 3 bar green belt
ОтветитьComing from a non m*sl*m minority in the middle east ,
We warned the West about this for years, unfortunately you never listened . You were too woke to listen, and they knew how to play the victim and fool you .
I see them stripping my people all the basic freedom rights, and I see them in europe deceiving and cursing you, while double crossing you , and enjoying all what your countries have to offer .
Now you have given them a foothlod in your countries . Sadly speechless and praying for you
It should be easy? I was told ”if it feels easy, you’re probably doing it wrong”. 😂 Maybe it starts feeling easy after a decade of repetition?
ОтветитьI am a yellow belt in karate and improve thank you for this video 🥋
Ответитьhow are they facts if they are false
ОтветитьI am starting matsubayashi ryu at 53 and every single one of these myths I have considered to some degree but the main thing I have learned in the first two belts is that the basics are everything and the belts do not matter. Process is everything and how I practice will determine what I am better at and where I am imbalanced. I will never be younger but I can embrace where I am at physically now and slowly push the body. I love how the door to spirituality is also open while practicing but is not necessary. I am also surprised with this myth that I am going to some supper man that can destroy other people. Street fights never happen like kata or in a dojo, so my instructor has mentioned many times that one should try to practice simple basic things while doing everyday things or while at work to better improve awareness and how skills "could be" deployed if necessary. Anyway, thanks Jesse for all your videos as they have been a help on starting my journey! btw..My sensei has met you and worked with but what degree he did not say. thanks again.
ОтветитьFew master are doubchbag shows kreese😂
Ответитьkarate is flashy
ОтветитьThe last one—I love it!
Ответитьone myth is that karate is underrated.
ОтветитьThat's crazy I do taekwondo, but knowing about karate thats amazing 👍👌
ОтветитьThe one about the okinawan peasants was the one I actually believed, so thx for that. On the other hand, I really liked your comment on "karate doesn't work" which is one i hear a lot and always think, err, works for what exactly?
ОтветитьBut modern karate works in street fight I have experienced
ОтветитьKarate jiu-jitsu wing Chun it's all fighting if you wanna win fights use all you can learn and discover new techniques think outside the box
ОтветитьVery knowledgeable channel I love it
ОтветитьIf its false its not a fact...
ОтветитьThe Belt Myth is true for many martial arts I think. Even though a black belt is seen as a master rank, it just shows, that you mastered the basics. At least from my humble understanding.
ОтветитьSomeone once told me that Krav Maga, came from Wing Tsun. I love and respect Wimg Tsun, however I have always found this hard to believe.
ОтветитьJesse must be one of the best Karate teachers❤
ОтветитьTHANK YOU SO MUCH JESSE
