Love all three, but genre is definitely the way to go! What happens when you buy new books though? Are you going to have to shuffle everything to make them fit into the correct sections?

Jack, what about the books on top of the bookshelves. Is there a reason those are left shelfless?

It's good to see a person who has read so many books yet not being even 1% boastful about it

I organize my shelves in a way that drives almost all of my book friends mad… but I will never again organize any other way!

For all my stand alone books: alphabetical (strictly— 1st letter, 2nd letter, etc.) by title.

And then I have shelves with series in alphabetical order. (Harry Potter followed by Hunger Games type of vibe.)

And then I have shelves with favorite authors (authors I have collections of— Jane Austen for example) and those are alphabetical by author’s last name.

So left to right: alphabetical by title, alphabetical by series, alphabetical by author.

It probably makes sense to no one but me, but as a fellow mood reader, I can find exactly the book that’s on my mind so quickly.

It’s also nice because generally speaking the favorite authors section is for comfort reading (because I know I love them and generally I’ve read them before), the stand alone section is good for something new because most of my tbr is in there, and my series section is for when I feel mentally prepped to limiting myself for a longer chunk of time since I tend to binge a series in one go to appreciate the immersion and not forget the little things between books.

I think what is most fun about book shelfs is the process to find the book you were looking for and yk the rubbing your fingers thing the whole process is so fun and best way to do that is mixing the books hardest way possible to find so do the abc one in my opinion the genre thing probably will be the quickest to find

I organise my books by colour but that works for me because I'm a very visual person and I DO remember which book was which colour. However, I don't split up series, these stay together on a separate shelf

I know people are going to say this but I'm not a fan of rainbow if its just done by splitting the shade in six, for me it has to consider the tones within those colours and flows naturally like lime, green, blue green, teal, turquoise, blue etc

Librarian here, you can also combine alphabet + genre for maximum efficiency

I don't have that many books at home, so I have devided my "home library" into genre + languages
I also have a designated shelf for my favourite books :>

I love the fact how you say what makes the most sense for you! So many people told me I have to do it this or that way - no matter what suits my needs or generally pleases me to see.

Do you keep all of your books whether you enjoyed them or not? Just curious because I sell the ones I don’t think I will read again or ones I wouldn’t bother lending to anyone so I can buy more!

I wish this was a diary comment where I can see it and not you if it does feel useless to you, but this thought came from this video, so I’m commenting here. Consider it my donation for the algorithm 🙏🏾

When I think about how the only “book” I read is organized (the “book” I’m referring to is a collection of books which as we all know is the Bible 😄), I think about what do I do when “in the mood” to read it?

I don’t really have a method… I know there are many, like the flip it open and point to it method, pretty fun, but idk how I read the Bible other than revisiting what I know already, mostly bc they’re easy to listen to passively (I like to do audio), however (I hope you like my run on sentence), I don’t read regularly enough to see a type of pattern although I often seek for a pattern to emerge. But when you think about it being a holy book, the holy book really, it makes sense that it’s not so much when or where you read or what, but the spirit that helps the reading of it.

This was nice to process, thank you for your time 😊
