Definitely prefer the driven power amp sound.
Great video Dylan
Five year old video but still very relevant today. Fantastic explanation and very much appreciated. Thank you Dylan
ОтветитьIf I got a solid state power amp and a tube pre amp will it’s give it that warm kinda Marshall tube amp sound?
ОтветитьSorry when you say preamp do you mean the gain or volume knob on that section?
Also how about the power control how does it affect both preamp and power amp
Spot on 👌
Ответитьhi, you forgot to mention that to achieve this slightly crunchiness in the power amp in a Gig you barely can use an amp that have 12 to 15 watt. Over this range no sound tech will you allow to crank your amp. Forget 30 to 100 wattt. .... or you get an attenuator....
ОтветитьGreat video. This was very helpful.
ОтветитьOne question: what about when I'm using an amp emulator pedal, like a Joyo British Sound?
ОтветитьHey Dylan, when I'm using the preamp knobs, which one do I use? Volume or gain?
ОтветитьI gotta be the only person on earth that hate this amp I bought one played it twice and now I can't sell it. total waste of money
Ответитьvery nice, i prefer the power amp distotion!!!
can i use a volume pedal before te tube amp to reduces the loud and can play the power amp distortion in my home without my ears bleed? ( my tube amp has only: gain, tone, and volume, no master).
in other video o told that if a signal becomes distorced, it never go back... so if ai use a distortion pedal, what is the proposal of the power amp? since the signal is alredy clipped?
thank very much!!! sory my english
Would this even matter since this is a solid state amp and not a tube?
ОтветитьWow. Man I want to hear that Fender amp. You still have it, Dylan?
Would this same basic thing apply to a Fender Mustang series amp that uses a separate master volume and regular volume? knob?
Hey Dylan. Love the explanations and how practical they are. Great stuff!
ОтветитьJust put them all up to 11 and super glue them there! That will stop you from giving in to the wretched temptation to turn anything down - ever!
ОтветитьThanks! Really helpful video - I've a blues junior and am struggling to find it's sweet spot!
ОтветитьA digital or solid state is useless in this comparison, to hear the preamp and power TUBES you should’ve used a TUBE amp
ОтветитьJust forget all these explanation. Buy an amplifier and a distortion pedal. Then spend quality time to tweak all knobs and determine what each knob does. There are really not many things to experiment since treble/mid/bass are knobs we are all know what they do.
ОтветитьBest explanation and demonstration of differences I've seen yet. Thanks Dylan.
ОтветитьSo keep my master cranked, and use the amp volume in the amp section? I think this retains the clarity at a lower volume. Your information was very helpful. Thank you 🙏
ОтветитьSo this method will get you all the tail around town?
ОтветитьWhich option is less noisy?
ОтветитьDylan, I love your guitar. Is it a custom (one-off) type of guitar??
and thank you for explaining the pre vs power amp difference. You seem to have a natural knack for instruction/teaching.
How can I have the same sound volume on all the tones or patches from studio central? Pls help
ОтветитьHey Dylan, thank you for a great explanation... very grateful for all the information you provided
ОтветитьHis voice sounds like Patrick Stump’s 😳
ОтветитьYou need your own tv show dude..so informative. I use an Mesa F100. Gain preamp is minimal. Even after owning this baby for over 15 years, still experimenting looking for that perfect tone.
ОтветитьI have a Boss Katana Artist. My default setting is crunch with master on full (cranked all the way up), presence at about 10 o'clock, channel gain at 3 o'clock and channel volume to taste. I then add a boost (along with a wee bit of reverb and delay) and walk away from the amp - set and forget. I use my guitar volume knob to control clean/dirt etc. With the cabinet resonance on vintage, this set up gives me a very dynamic old-school sound and feel.
ОтветитьHi, Dylan (great channel BTW). I watched this video, and watched your other videos that explain the differences between gain and volume, but I'm still confused by something:
On the Katana in the video there are 3 knobs -- Gain, Volume AND Master Volume. I always thought that the Gain controlled the pre-amp, and the Volume controlled the power amp, but what does the Master Volume do?
I have a Marshall DSL5 practice amp. It has a "Classic Gain" channel with a single knob that I assume raises the output from the pre- and power-amp simultaneously...but it also has a "Ultra Gain" channel with a gain knob AND a volume knob which I always assumed let you control the pre- and power-amp independently.
But with the Katana (and other tube amps), they ALSO have a MASTER Volume, and I can't understand what that does in the circuit. Is it like an attenuator or something?
That is the ugliest guitar in the world. What is it? It is so so ugly!
ОтветитьI use a DRRI.. so no master, you get what you get. I wish it had a master volume.
ОтветитьIs that a Dylan V?
A Semi-hollow V? Never been a fan of V guitars but that one is grabbing my attention!!
Lots of headroom is what I do ,you can always dirty up a clean amp with a pedal.(, But you can't Always clean up a dirty amp).Is that a Dylan Vee?
ОтветитьI’m one of the shred guys. I use a Marshall DSL at 3 on the volume , & an ADA MP1 on 7(it goes to 11). I’m gonna mess around a bit & see what happens now. Keep up the great work.
ОтветитьYou asked for setting preference...depends on amp. On my blues jr, volume 6 master 3. Carvin v16 soak 9 master 2.
ОтветитьThat guitar is so cool looking, like something out of Flash Gordon.
