To @E.L.C. and @LadieKatie-- Clearly two clueless people who've no idea whatsoever of the agony of withdrawing from Heroin, even in a modern Western Rehab.
And I bet you're both all in on the limiting of pain medication to a VERY LOW "one dose fits all" model that is in place in the United States. A mandate which has driven many pain patients, now living in agony and forced to break the law, most for the first time in their lives, to suicide.
You MIGHT have a change of what passes for your heart if a loved one is in agonizing pain and they send them home post surgery with, if you're LUCKY and I mean VERY LUCKY, 5mg/325 paracetamol (Tylenol), and a small amount, 12 tablets would be very generous.
However, usually a patient is told to take Tylenol and/ or Ibuprofen. Often they will write an RX for ES Ibuprofen. It's barbaric.
What if it were your wife? Child? Well, start thinking because one day it WILL BE.
The truth is a very small percentage of people prescribed painkillers wind up dependent on them, about 5% (I'm being generous, the actual figure is probably lower.
I was an addict for 20+ years. There was the family (genetic) component and also childhood trauma. Most addicts are trying to outrun the ghosts of physical/sexual/psychological abuse/torture. Wouldn't you?
Oh, and many of us also have dual diagnoses; We've been abused AND we have chronic physical pain from a condition/ injury, what have you.
It's COMPLEX. But you cannot just lump everyone into ONE category. I still gotta believe we're better than that. Peace.

Tough to go through withdrawal, but if it works these men could be saved from having a useless life. The withdrawal process may become etched in their minds and they will never want to go through it again.

I had no idea Afghanistan had such major drug problems during US occupation. It was never covered in the US media.

Making myself feel and suffer the pain and agony of withdrawal without methadone or Suboxone or any kind of help is what helped change my mind about ever using again I've been clean 6 years no going back 🙏 this technique should be used all over the world giving people legal heroin like methadone does nothing but baby people and they usually relapse because they know they can get a substitute for it a crutch.🤷

You could tell the guy who said he was glad he'd been picked up and brought there was reading a speech they'd prepared for him. All of you who think this is great clearly know nothing of addiction. They are going back to the same place, same friends, etc. Nothing in their mindset has changed so almost all will leave and go and get a hit.

This is actually a pretty reasonable way to do it. They say methadone but the best way to kick dope is the hard way. You never want to feel that way again it stays with you. The taliban cares about afghanis more then the US government. We encourage drug use and allow it

If any one cared they would send methadone to Afghanistan instead of virtue signaling. Basic medication is on low supply there after the war let alone methadone.

Majority of these people came from Iran and Pakistan where they went as young migrants to work.
20 years ago we didn’t had even a 10% of these addicts in the country.
The country used to grow opium for centuries to be used for medicine, unfortunately the war and drought combined with no governmental control over the rural areas had expanded opium cultivation by 1000%.
The only way to feed their families was by growing opium is it needs minimum irrigation and takes very little time to grow and with not much disease.
Billions came to Afghanistan in past 2 decades more than half was distributed to former war lords and big chunk was spend on fail projects and in commission instead of building dames and rehabilitation of the irrigation systems.
They did not repair and rehabilitate the old dams, canals or factories which were processing agricultural products because it was build with the assistance of Soviet Union or Old Germany.
