This is such a weak analysis of tokenomics. You can't just look at max supply and call it a day - you need to understand burn mechanisms, and why there is an unlimited supply.

$ICP has real utility in that the token is essentially compute credits, that's why everyone says the tech is fundamentally different to any other token - because you use it to host your entire full stack app on chain. Given that the plan is to absorb all web2 infrastructure onto web3, you have to have an unlimited supply because we want to support an unlimited amount of computation. You can't know ahead of time how much computation you are going to do.

To work out whether $ICP is a good investment then you have to look at whether it's inflationary or *deflationary*, how much so, and what the plan is for the future. If you did any real research you'd see that last year real inflation on ICP was at 3.9%, which is actually fairly low for a new project. Newer projects often become deflationary over time, because it's very normal in crypto that tokens have an unlock schedule.

Since $ICP is burned for computation (a mechanism you completely overlook), it only takes a small amount of adoption for $ICP to become deflationary (since more will be burned to power the apps than is created).

Just saw your video on my feed. Quick point on ICP. The reason why the all time high chart is like that is because of the FTX manipulation not inflation. As far as tokenomics, they actually have one of the best tokenomics compared to most crypto. Yes, there’s inflation due to staking rewards NOT “they can produce more tokens in the future if they want” but, also they have a burn rate due to the reverse gas fee model and voting that over time makes the token deflationary. Do a little digging for yourself and check out their dashboard for live stats. Fun fact: 48.3% of their total supply is locked up and staked. Most of it locked up for 8 years. So the total supply you see on coin market cap is not accurate. Do a little research yourself and you’ll be surprised what you find. Used to think like you until I did my own research. Great content though.

I'm curious why you said that HBAR having diluted it's price with more tokens in the past bear market is a good thing while ICP having done the same is not.

Icp has max supply of 512.54M ICP.

Just for context,ICP has had over the last three years had annualised inflation of 3.9%.
These tokens are brought into the market through the staking mechanism . Or voted on by the community as it a DOA blockchain…

You missed an important example with OP. Their marketcap went up 20x but price only went up 3x. Their unlock schedule is too aggressive, also GRT and GLMR... Also looking at tokenomics through plain metrics is not wise. Example, some crypto have deflationary tokenomics and others have mining. To understand tokenomics, looking at numbers alone is misleading. Nexa for example has 2mil coins in circulation and 21mil in total. Looks bad but when you realize it mirrors tokenomics of btc and coins aren't freely unlocked by team then it becomes a different story. For me personally RWN has the best tokenomics I've ever seen.

ICP has 3.5% yoy currently and has the potential to become deflationary like a lot of these blockchains if usage gets high enough aka more tokens being birned than minted. This video seems more like an icp hate video than one actually about tokenomics.

This is a really uninformed view of ICP's tokenomics. Additionally, more than half of the supply is staked from 6 months to 8 years... with roughly 50% of all staked supply, being staked for 8 years.

Plus, in April 2023 a proposal was passed to update how circulating supply was calculated.

ETH and SOL both have an infinite supply. Tokenomic evaluation is not just a matter of "Max supply vs circulating supply". Another major factor in the analysis is based on how "New tokens" are created (vs) how they are "Burned". ICP actually has good tokenonics.
