Great advice. I’m a punk rocker/ skater type but needs to step up my game. I’ve always been concerned about getting a suit because I felt like it would make me look out of place because of the way I’ve always been, my hands and neck or tattooed, and just because I’ve never really cared about looking nice until now. I really just want a shit for my monthly trips out to Vegas or when taking my beloved to a nice dinner. Guess I’m tired of people making the assumption that I’m a broke bum or something.

I wear white air force once’s all day for my suites in my law firm.

Online? Never. Fit is everything - and a cheap suit that fits will trump an expensive one that doesn't. Custom - made-to-measure, in the UK - is now my default. Vents? Go for an English two.

Hilburn and Indochino, or even Brooks Brothers now, keep your measurements and preferences on file plus you get a remake or two until it fits the way you like. As they release different cloth and style, it is easy to order up something new. My preference is J. Hilburn and their suits run from about $800 up to $1600 depending on material and options. For $1000 it's a classically styled suit that'll last 15+ years with proper care; hard to beat that when you do the math on cost per wear over time.
