Sorry I have so recently learned of your channel. This topic will continue to be of interest. Asked Subaru of America to help pay for a repair to a ten year old Crosstrek, I had purchased July,14,2023. Dealership said this oil leak was bad, and that it was leaking on to the catalytic converter, a potential to start a fire. They recommend contacting Subaru of America for help, since I had no resources after the purchase to pay the $2353.00 repair to fix the dangerous leak.
Subaru of America basically said, "Cars ware out, sorry you bought a used Subaru." I will have to save up for this repair. Dealership I purchased it from was so kind to refund $500.00 toward this repair.

AI is going to replace so many more jobs than people realize. Just omitting planned obsolescence from designs will dramatically reduce manufacturing, let alone automation of production lines.

Ofc with your statement, but I feel that as technology evolves, we will just have to throw away a perfectly fine product, as it is outdated and newer and better products are in line.
What I do understand is that people (Mostly these big production companies) don't want to replace their already placed and working industrial sites, factories and machines, however reusing it for some other product also works, Just that big heads want to make easy money without having to replace their Industries.

(brought to light that LEDs and Incandescant don't last forever because of low energy consuming weak products which makes it cheaper to replace than to pay hundred more for Electricity bills. However I dont want to remove a part of my comment.)
However, with more upgrades to products, and their hardware, comes upgrades to machines making them, Storages storing them, and More Industrial sites being made. So I don't understand why these big headmasters of their companies don't just try to make a lasting product already, and have a option to recycle old products. It will be cheaper (In a way, cheaper than making new industrial sites for same product) and work towards a equilibrium.

(Just my Opinions, I don't have most knowledge about these sectors of Industries, feel free to correct me.) I will make a comment with this reply to @jobrown3008

I read some of the comments and obtained an abstract idea of the theme of this topic. I watched (so far) 90 seconds of it when an idea struck me; perhaps it has already been suggested, but here goes..

Maybe it would be of mutual interest between producers and consumers, if, the producers made products as the anecdotal lightbulb; and they offered a warranty for sale, for the given life expectancy of whichever product, under the conditionally the consumer must maintain periodic payments--such as insurance policies currently operate? Would this make sense?

Yeah, LED bulbs SHOULD last, in theory, but the reality is, these are also highly subject to planned obsolescence. I bought my house in 2018 and ive had to replace the lights in every room twice since then. Although, the brand DOES tend to make a difference. I just have no faith in the "25,000 hour lifspan."

I think its very interesting what happens to PCs now. 5 years old PCs are fast enough to do eveything. Maybe you will not feel any difference. But they won't get the Windows 11 update anymore. So its official told your PC ist outdated. But even with a i7 4970K you can play new games like Cyberpunk and it looks smooth.
Very new trick is to make the products rare. You must have luck to get one. Louis Vuitton did this and this became the most valuable company in the world. Not Apple anymore. I think this would be very helpful for Apple that you have to own 2-3 products from Apple to get acces to an Pro-iPhone. So they can sell the 15pro for 3000$. But this would be very bad for us.

all this is good, but... There is one huge disadvantage from "planned obsolescence". Garbage. Every old thing is potential garbage. And there is more garbage every time on our planet. Therefore, of course, the company makes a profit, but by doing so, this company plunges the world into hell.

Rest we Also draw the lineage from most superior race of world The Rajput's s and Brahmins with Kayastha are the One who believe in Quality in my country from legislature executive to judicial system and Complete press and newspaper , medical and science, engineering ,all the private colleges universities, schools construction, contract projects all under our dominance field is under our dominance this is called the Power of Quality

our community have everything only when we control the lower castes people to reduce population then only we become developed nation the excessive population crisis and non implementation of Sterilisation program it need to be implemented from peon to member of parliament by hook or crook in all religions in bharat
Males who are wasting their precious time from age 21 to 32 years just in preparation of various exams are creating trouble by reproducing and every male must write his surname clearly he belongs to which religion and which caste general category Shudra or Obc
This time we all Rajput's and brahmins must unite together call for all Females and males of our community to prevent explosion of population and for resources of india
The corruption is at its peak in bharat all the institution is only indulged in corruption from private to govt sectors the gram panchayat to nagar paalika nagar nigam the mayor of Pune jaipur lucknow takes 10 to 20% commission in any project and these lawyers with police and administration and politicians are make loot with unemployment at its peak in bharat
All bars and benches are under the one community The Rajputs, Jaats Brahmins and kayastha only real rajputs not those backwards lodhs etc
Politicians apart from party making mockery of people they hand in glove with each other across parties and in this bureaucracy, executive and bars and bench are involved
Inside india now the universities just busy in making politicians by making fool to poor and lower class people educated unemployment is on its high I will name the universities Delhi ,awadh, ccs, kanpur, Devi ahilya, jadhavpur ,jaipur, only busy in making politicians by grabbing money from common educated people
This is very ugly face of politics in bharat the politicians and their family members are only getting rich and wealthy while common educated people are continuously suffering in bharat
I will repeatedly raise the issues what all political persons are doing from gram panchayat to parliament of India only nepotism in every field whether legislature executive or judiciary and so called fourth pillar the media and mediahouses running by businesshouses
the politicians with bureaucracy executive and judiciary in high courts and supreme courts are blocked by few people from past 75 years and India is suffering of educated unemployment at its peak we are moving towards stagflation with politicians and businessmen who are politicians and their relatives are continuously getting benefitted explosion of population must be dealt with heavy hand
appointment of lecturers asst professors on recommendation of politicians ministers dean proctor takes money in that also in all courses
This time world community have to come forward to deal with excessive population of world and the govt in india is repeating again with bjp rest unemployment will remain bcoz politicians are equally corrupt like people made them across all the political parties common people is just a tool nothing more
The universities &schools must reduce excessive pressure on children and youths by making 50 -50% mcq and theory based examination in all domains from class 11 to ph.d. this is to be applied at earliest we are witnessing suicides in India at peak

Planned obsolescence is ridiculous and unnecessary! Don't people realize that once you sell all the TV's because they don't break, then you accomplished your mission and you only need a small area for TV's and now the rest of your factory can be dedicated to something else, something New. Seriously WTF.
You'd do way better and make more money without planned obsolescence and just used common sense and careful planning instead!!! 🎉🎉

As a service technician I can agree with planned obsolescence.
Late 1990s and early 2000s vehicles were built with durability in mind where as vehicles from 2005 on up seem to have lesser quality components in them. Iirc I believe I read somewhere that dealerships would expect the average consumer to trade in around 100k miles for a new vehicle.

Simple answer to this planned obsolescence theory. To make a light bulb more efficient, you have to run it hotter. Means it gets hotter, yes, but much brighter. Peak efficency is near the melting point of tungsten. There are many lightbulbs that can do that, but some are designed to just be indecators or whatever and running that at such temperatures burns them out within minutes. You can lengthen the lifespan of every bulb by reducing it's light output. But even then they will eventually run out sooner or later. So it is just better to say bulbs are not allowed to run longe that that lifespan so that every manufacturer can produce the best light quality within those parameters. In fact was the concept of such "perfect" lightbulbs so common knowledge and so cheap to produce, that everytime you paid your electricity bill, you got free lightbulbs as a gift. They were literally consumable goods, like bread or gasoline.

I other words was it not "they are not allowed to run longer than than so that they have to buy new bulbs" but "since they will run out anyway we should limit the lifespan so that no cheap and low efficient ones flkd the market". They didn't made long lifespan lightbulbs illegal, they just banned the bad guallity bulbs.

Great video, but it didn't even touch on the planned obsolescence of printers. Microsoft (and Apple) only have to bring out a new OS and because printer manufacturers have no gain in updating their drivers, you end up having to throw out a perfectly good printer. Same goes for other peripherals, but to a lesser extent.
