Cool amps for sure, I have an original black face Princeton though and the reverb is a bit different. The reissue reverb is actually smoother and longer, original is more springy and surf guitar sounding

Demo's WITHOUT using pedals, so we can hear the amp on it's own please.
Kind Regards Phil Strat

Nice comparisons. I like the way you clearly upped the volume on each amp. The Princeton sounded weak at 4, but really began to impress at 5, then 6, then 7. My experience with Princetons with 10” speakers is the speakers kind of “fart” on the bassier notes as the volume increases. Not so with the Deluxe Reverbs with their 12 inch speaker. But love them both!

I prefer a DR but a Princeton is cool also. I just like the 12 inch speaker. They sound good and really you can use a 5 watt amp on a huge stage if you have your guitar in your monitors or IEM.

Cub Koda from Brownsville Station used to play through two deluxe reverbs in stereo. I think. Smokin in the Boys Room. I want the amp that gets me as close to Cubs sound as I can get.

Fully turn down the guitar output to the
Amp and then turn the Amp up to full,
then slowly bring up the guitar
output and stop when happy.
That's the way to do it, give it a go
you will end up with a very large
smile on your face....🎸

One or both, Hmmm
Why have one when
you could have two
of each. Super Stereo

Early on when you mention that the Princeton has a 10" speaker, as the original did, I was going to point out that most who gig with one had a 12" speaker installed. And also that most would install a better speaker of their choice. However, you seemed to like (love?) the Princeton anyway, but still one has to wonder if it would still have the magic with a 12" or would it just be louder. Also, the Princeton has a permanently wired bright cap across the volume control that many choose to remove because it is just too bright. It is out of the circuit (shorted) with the volume at 10 so at least in those tests we get to hear it as it would sound with it removed.

What preamp are you using. How do you use them? What makes it all work. What are the intricacies to their feel and spec as of right now.

Why in the world would you play either amp with the bass off. As an owner of vintage DR and non verb Princeton, I can get a lot better tone. Couldn't finish the video - you made these amps sound tinny and fizzy. Also the speakers aren't "giving it up" they're ceramic speakers and it's not that loud... The 6v6s give it up. Actually quite disappointed in this video. I usually like your videos too.

The Deluxe have a high sensitivity 12 inch with a large magnet and a much darker and more midrange sound.. The princeton has that papper thin seamed cone with a dinky magnet..

Have to say, that Princeton is GLORIOUS! Yes, I know there's more headroom available in the more powerful amp, go figure :D , but I'd take the warmth and character of the Princeton every day of the week, and work around its limitations.......I always find the Deluxe Reverbs to be a blank canvas (which many love them for I know) but to me they have very little character. The Princeton however, has LOADS of character.......and in fairness, has plenty of cleanish volume for any pubs I gig in.......the Deluxe is WAY too loud (I know because I owned one for about 5 mins........ couldn't use it, didn't really like it, and move it on quickly) As a Vox man, I would happily have a Princeton to compliment my Vox amps 👍

People often find the PRRI to be spiky up top and flabby down low so they start trying new speakers to fix the problem. Before trying new speakers make sure your amp is properly biased. Fender often biases these at around 50% which is too cold and causes these issues. Bias your amp warmer. I like to be around 68% of total power tube rated output. Some like it even warmer. The stock Jensen is a good speaker but often takes the blame for Fender's penchant for cold biasing, which I suspect they do to maximize tube life during warranty. FWIW Dan Pletka from Eurotubes says they don't even come out of crossover distortion until biased up to at least 65%. With an Eminence GA10-SC64 George Alessandro in, better tubes and a good bias, I'll put mine up against any vintage Princeton. It's an entirely different animal since I did that and sounds amazing.

Nice, but really. How often do you get to play a deluxe reverb at that volume without having your bandmates, barkeeper telling you to turn it down. I don't see how can sit straight in front or it without hurting your ears. Either way, great video😀🎸

Hi guys. Thank you so much for all your videos. It’s really amazing. But are you able to do some kind of summary at the end of your epic art work? My lifetime is too short to watch your videos in movie length. Thank you so much upfront. Oh, and hey, maybe talk a little faster. I already watch all your videos in double speed.
Thanks.

I've got a 65 Reissue Princeton 15 watt (it says on it) and it has a lot of bottom end with my Les Paul Special with P90s. Great sound! My son has a 65 Deluxe Reverb and I don't think you can find a better amp for a Telecaster for which to play country, etc. With both amps on 10, the LP ventured into some Clapton territory. I like to play through either the Princeton with a Marshall Valvestate or a Blues Jr. III with the Marshall when using two amps. Great video!

Thanks SO muchMUCH for demonstrating CLEAN headroom, and not pushing the amps thru a bunch of pedals!!!
Yeah, I realize that this IS "That Pedal Show", but I can never understand why people demonstrate amps with a bunch of pedals! It does not give anyone a good idea of how the AMP sounds!!
I was at a Blues Jam, where there were about 12 guitar players taking turns at solos. At a break, EVERY ONE of them came over and asked how I got the amazing tone. I looked around and realized I was the ONLY one going straight into my old Blues Junior, with no pedals!! EVERY SINGLE other player had a bunch of pedals!
And that was a BLUES JUNIOR!!!!!
