Guild Wars 2 in 2023 (inc. Secrets of the Obscure) - Review

GW2 is one of the top tier mmorpg out there but most of us from Asia and SEA have high ping because they dont have any asian server and playing with high ping is fine at first but gets problematic later on.

horizontal progression is boring af. Playing the game feels completely useless

I dont try GW 2 just because the price, it would be nice to have regional pricing. For exemple i can buy FFXIV for around R$ 160, GW2 cost R$ 502.

This is why I still play this game. Is fun, and there is always something to do.

Honestly, I'd play GW2, but I can: (1) Never pick a class and stick to it, (2) Horizontal progression both intrigues and worries me, (3) the amount of content out there feels insurmountable.

I enjoyed Guild Wars 2, but it never lived up to the sheer fun of the Guild Wars 1 customization and party systems... let alone elite map clearing... monks... ritualists... mesmers... etc. I might have even spent more hours in GW2 than in GW1... somewhere around 3-3.5k hours, can't recall now...

I enjoyed both (especially the exploration of GW2), but #1 is by far the more fun to return to, especially as a generally solo player. I miss dedicated healers and enchantment builds... if GW2 dropped my ritualist back into the game I might drop another couple thousand hours on it.

Man, I haven't played GW2 in years. I got it when it first came out and absolutely hated how they changed the battle system; in GW1 if you hit an attack skill (or even basic attack) your PC ran automatically to go in range to do the attack. In GW2, your PC just does the attack right where you are meaning you just waste the time. I know that's how WoW and such does it but I hate it so much.

Don't be fooled, GW2 has a lot to offer, but you are going to suffer. You have minimal mounts before playing the expansions and you need them to reach places otherwise unreachable. The new player experience is worse than any other mmo I know, because so many things locked behing tedious achievements are mandatory to progress. So, if you're plaing in order for 2 years, you'll have what you need to enjoy the game. Until then, it's frustrating running into walls because you don't have the required mounts yet.

They might be convenient for you, but those leveling scrolls left a bad taste in my mouth when I last played (years and years ago). I came back and there they were: a definite sign that they didn't want you to have that leveling experience at all. No, they wanted you to move to the stuff you pay extra for, as fast as possible. As their messing around with the initial experience was what drove me away (that and introducing a new gear tier after they said they wouldn't), that just gave me all the bad signals.

The game is... fine, it's just not for me. But for all the good it does, it drove people like me away with moves like that. I think it deserved to fall out of the spotlight for a while. I'm glad it's doing well though. Means my friends and I can continue to play the first game.

it's been a long time since I've REALLY played GW2. It's a shame I haven't been able to really get into it or find people to play with.

GW2 Is very cool, i've tried getting into it many times, but I guess MMOs just aren't my thing anymore.

Ehh. I come back and try it out every few months but the games just not very good. My experiences are based on the trial and I often find myself comparing it to FFXIV’s trial. Everything kinda feels disjointed, the mount that you get you only have it for a few hours and that’s the only mount your allowed. There’s players but it seems like no one’s really talking. Most of what I do seems like a perpetual fate grind and I get bored of that eventually.

So ur saying GW2 has storytelling that rivals peak MCU movies like Endgame or Guardians Of The Galaxy? Daredevil no less?! Count me in!

I love the new story is so good. The zones are super and the bosses are well made I think is the best mini expansion and only 25 dollars come on mount in wow are 30 or more people really need to play this game more

Nice to hear that it has to grown to be like guild wars 1 but as an mmo. All the things that are amazing about the level cap, expansions being able to jump in, account wide things were all normal in guild wars 1

The greatest marketing ploy of 2023. 6 years of hype build up just to drop this gem for GW2 on this channel

I could never get into MMO’s due to the cost and nature of them (FF14 was great but I got a pc and found out the free trial was platform locked and well..I’m broke and don’t wanna restart as I was lvl 40 and that’s a lot of time for someone who has kids) I got into this game and lemme tell you. I’m literally ADDICTED it’s so fun. I did my first world boss yesterday which was a fire elemental and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Such a great game and me having ADHD this scratches that itch I’ve been having for a game as everything lately is just so boring to me.

I have thousands of hours on GW2. Love the game so much. However, I only found out about this expansion yesterday after I saw this video. You are correct about their marketing. They need to do better there. LOL.

"that" MMO that respects you time and money and doesn't punish you for not playing is every MMO for me (except destiny 2 that removed story content I bought and a DLC I didn't have yet ><), since I only play the campaign, and if at a certain point I can't enjoy any new content without farming or paying, I consider I finidhed the game/the game doesn't want me to play anymore and I juste uninstall it (also if the campaign is just as boring as farming, obviously). I have no interest in endgame content, maybe I'll do each dungeon/raid/whatever once to experience all of the content in the game, but only if it's not too much of a hassle (matchmaking and no need to farm)
haven't tried gw2 yet, I'm always wary of MMOs because even just playing the campaign is usually really long, and their campaigns are usually boring, and you can't play solo of just with friends to not be bothered by randos who ruin the immersion (which is already not great), and kills the ennemies you're supposed to kill/OS bosses
so yeah I could just not bother with this genre, but I like to discover their world, story (sometimes), and mechanics

I do love this game. I hate heart of thorns.

I feel I have to complete it to continue the story and the systems were frustratingly stopping me from progressing through it as much as I’d like to. I could not get the environmental skills needed to progress HoT so I never got to join in any of the big fantastic fights like the raids or extreme trial equivalent ( my ffxiv story logger clawing through ).

I will try again.

i just want to know are the expansions getting discounts? and can i use my Anet account on Steam?

Ew that game is Terribad. I’d rather play marvels avengers.

I think I played this for 3 years straight. However, by that time, all my game friends already left the game.

So eventually, I lost my drive to play and hang everyday.

I'm not playing Guild Wars 2 ever again.
