If possible, could you share your XnView config file? I can't figure out how you open images in a browser without opening new tabs in that program.
ОтветитьHeya Nerrel,
Back when you first started this series, I was incredibly intrigued and gleefully watched every development as you shared them on your channel. When you posted this video, though, was when I was taken by the idea of doing my own retexture pack some day. I mostly put it to the back of my mind, knowing what a massive scope such a project had, but these days I find myself thinking about it again. The game I want to retexture is Kirby 64, for a bunch of reasons - for the one thing I love it, but the main pragmatic reason is that I feel it won't be nearly as gargantuan of a task as the MM retexture was.
To this end, I'd like to ask - how did you organise the textures by area? When they dump, do they automatically create their own folders, or did you have to go in with every dump and put them in their own folder? How do you not get lost and accidentally put textures from one area in with another? Organisation is key to a smooth workflow for this kind of thing and I want to get in front of that first. Thank you so much, both for your reply, and for these videos that inspired me (and others!) in the first place.
Something about Nerrel's voice and speaking about Majora's Mask reminds me of a much simpler time in life
Ответитьhonestly the entire concept of painting the impression of detail rather than painting actual detail really helped me a lot in improving my art
Ответитьmodern graphics look like ass
ОтветитьWhat would you do for textures that are based on photos and have the original source photo that was used to create it?
Do you do the same thing you did for the photo-based rocks here or do you simply use the original photo, especially if the texture in-game is just that photo without or barely any edits done to it besides being scaled down
Something I've been thinking about for a while is to create an ever growing library of hand drawn gray scale seamless textures of common materials, like brick/stone patterns, concrete details, rust, moss, grass, etc. All done at pretty high resolutions so they can work for stuff that needs high detail, but also scaled down as needed to fit pretty much any need. Then I can just pull from that library instead of stock photos to quickly get a starting point for new textures/materials.
ОтветитьFOOBAR USER <3
ОтветитьIf you don't mind me asking, where do you find good brushes?
ОтветитьI have zero interest in any other this stuff but God this dude is so good
ОтветитьMaster of photobashing right here.
ОтветитьThis is a great video, I'd like to point out though that photo textures work a lot better when you start manipulating the value really harshly, and then recolor them with a gradient map. Tons of PS2 and GameCube and even Wii era games do this to great effect, it feels like a great blend of stylized and realism
Ответитьwow this is incredible. The amount of work and cognition it takes to retexture an entire game is just mind blowing. Ocarina of Time is my personal favorite game so it makes it even cooler to see
ОтветитьHad no clue how much time, effort, patience, love and care was put into this project. Very impressive
Ответитьimagine making textures

👏HUGE inspiration Nerrel!
ОтветитьIt took 4 hours just to make that lamp. Your work is insane
ОтветитьPersonally wean I create texture for my game is not following the original texture because I created the original texture
That meams the texture need to look nice but is not I recreation for existing texture
Affinity designer and Affinity Photo cost both 50$ and is yours to keep for a lifetime with lifetime updates :D
ОтветитьNote to self; If using Photoshop, using Camera Raw filter can be a life saver if you have no choice but to work with photos.
Also try to the best of your ability mask the over-realness of a photo texture with a blend of handpaintedness, it can work if done right.
I have no idea what half of this means, but I love watching videos like this from you
ОтветитьI know Nerrel isn’t (which I don’t blame him this has to be so draining) but I hope someone does this for Ocarina Of Time
ОтветитьBut there are no 128 bit consoles.....we don't even have 128 bit computers on the consumer level.
ОтветитьI was giggling at the opening "bit" but yeah no I have no idea if those images are true
ОтветитьThis was so insanely cool.
ОтветитьI just want more of this
Ответитьyou sir, are my all time favorite creator in this world
ОтветитьThis video is incredibly helpful, and I'm very inspired by your Majoras Mask project. The only thing I'm unclear on from this tutorial is how to actually get the textures in the game itself.
Ответитьhow have I already heard this much information in 4 minutes and 30 seconds
ОтветитьSo hear me out.
I don't have any interest in creating textures, but I've watched this videos way too many times and you might have saved my sanity with this in an unintended way.
This video helped me so many times to fall asleep. I don't wanna say it's boring, it's simply very good to put me in a relaxed mood with these perfect OST choices and the quite, relaxed atmosphere.
Thank you so much, Nerrel.
Wow, it’s incredible how much work you put in. This is super inspiring— well done man!
ОтветитьI don't do any form of art, haven't since freshman year of highschool, but damn it if I didn't watch you paint the fuck out of a lamp for a game that's legally old enough to buy alcohol.
It's really awesome to hear your thought process while making your HD pack, you truly were passionate about maintaining the overall art direction
I tried to put this video on as background noise and even though I've seen this video several times already the video is just so interesting that I'm having a hard time going back to what I was doing
ОтветитьHoly fucking shit its the game over song from kyuuyaku megami tensei
ОтветитьWelp I just draw them on a paper and take a photo of it
ОтветитьI'd love to make textures but I'm sure mine would not look nearly this good.
ОтветитьI could watch a Nerrel Video about how to watch paint dry.
ОтветитьI’ve watched this video way too many times
ОтветитьIn the credits it says you did the piano arrangement - you play piano too eh? A man of many talents!
Ответитьthis vid is old but having sped up vids of nerrel making textures would be nice
ОтветитьIdk what’s happening but I like your voice
ОтветитьWhat is this remix of Minda's lament?
And music in general
What is the guitar cover of red soil brimstar from? And I know It’s from Metroid but like where’s that acoustic cover from
ОтветитьHere's a lesson that's easy, but people forget to do. Name things properly. Without names, it gets difficult to remember. That includes layers, and especially if you're working in a team
Ответить“I wouldnt trust ai with anything older than 128 bit systems”
So nothing made before the year 2040, got it.
Please make another one of these videos it's so chill and interesting to watch
