I think the reason this would be considered a riddle is due to how it’s setup where’s there’s only 1 missing. With such a small difference, I feel people are more likely to want to explain why the 1 exists rather than go to the obvious answer of summing the balance doesn’t get you the original balance.
If the riddle was laid it out like 50 constantly subtracting one, for a balance in like the hundreds, people would be more likely to call out it being bs.
Adding up ''what you spend'' and ''the balance you have left'' isn't going to give you the same answer.
Why should lt ?
For example ... Start with 100 Spend 25 Balance 75
Spend 25 Balance 50
Spend 25 Balance 25
Spend 25 Balance 0
Add them up 100 150
Summing the balances doesn't make any sense. We can check this in the case of starting with 50, and spending each time, 1. If we sum the balances, we'll have 49 + 48 + 47 + 46 + 45 + 44... + 1 + 0. This will give us 1275, which is truly a lot of money...
ОтветитьYou used to amaze me with your confusing puzzles Presh. I think you should delete this video and the prior one I commented on. It's not even the least bit challenging. I'm going to call my bank right away and ask them what happened to all my money when I sum the balance column. I'm sure they'll fall for it. *not*
ОтветитьEasier to see the error if you start out with 50 $ and spend 1$ at a time 50 times, then you end up with a balance of 0, while the sum in the right-hand column will be somewhere around 1275$. Then it is pretty obvious that summing up the right-hand column is a pointless exercise.
ОтветитьI have $10 I spend 1 I have a balance of 9
Spend 1 balance 8
Repeat until broke
I spent $10 and my balance total is $45
You don’t total balances.
It’s just bad math
When you compare apples and oranges, you get drivel
ОтветитьI just looked at the picture. Nice try to sum the ballance ) So if you spend 2 and then 3 you need to sum 48+45 etc.
ОтветитьHow can you not make an example with spending 2 timed 1 Rupie? 49+48 ≠ 50
ОтветитьNot sure why I am still getting this in my feed. The riddle is just nonsense and not tough.
ОтветитьThat was so easy I stopped the video. You never add the balances silly, because you could have 49, 48, 47, etc
Ответитьwhats extra strange is that if you instead do 50-20-15-10-5=0, balance will be 30+15+5+0=50
ОтветитьYou have 100$. You spend 1$. Balance is 99$. You spend another 1$. Balance is now 98...
ОтветитьDumbest “riddle” I’ve ever seen posted to this channel.
Ответитьmore like "World's Stupidest Riddle"
ОтветитьThe balance column shouldn’t even add up to anything. Redo the riddle with different numbers.
Let’s say you still start with $50.
Spending $1 will put you at $49. Spending another $1 puts you at $48. Adding up $49 and $48 puts you at $97., WAY above $50. So the original riddle just used a specific set of numbers to trip you up.
Don’t ever make me feel this smart again.
It's absurd to add up any *total" from the numbers on the Balance column. If the Spend column listed five $5 expenditures, the Balance column would list $45, $40, $35, $30, and $25, for a "total" of $175. Did spending half your money magically multiply the remainder by seven? NO — because you don't "total" the entries in a running Balance column.
Ответитьummmm I wouldn't even class that as a riddle at all. I'm 40 seconds into the video so maybe the riddle is yet to come?? But if it's just "why doesn't the cumulative balance add up to 50?" then I have another question "why would you expect it to?"
ОтветитьI counted the ducks in the pond and the dogs being walked in the park this morning. The totals are different and I'm wondering why. 🤔 Why would you even add the balances together to begin with?
ОтветитьA trick question is not a riddle.
ОтветитьMe: don’t sum the balance, don’t sum the balance
Them: sums the balance
Me: aaaaaaaaaaaaa
I spend 0 on the first 10 tunrns and get a balance of 500 😎
ОтветитьHeaven forbid that I spend $1 twice and then spend $48! Then my balance column would add up to $97. OMG where did the extra $47 come from?
ОтветитьAnyone seeking the answer:
India is older than Arabia. Arabia invited the "number 0"
Therefore you can not subtract the last 6 indian rupees to get the zero. Its mathematically impossible. Therefore you still have the last rupee as a remainder. SO your second column still equals 50, not 51 and is therefore balanced. This obviously doesn't work for dollars, pounds or euros, all of which were invented AFTER the number 0 was invented.
you might as well spend your money 1 rupee each, and then your balance would be: 49,48,47... immediately clear that addimg up the balance column is sheer nonsense
ОтветитьThere’s a similar one about 3 people in a hotel room that pay £30 cash in total, the manger later realised it should only be £25 so he gives them £1 back and keeps £2 so they end up paying £9 each but 3x9=27 plus the £2 makes £29. Where did the missing £ go?
ОтветитьWhat is in your pocket is important not once spend.
ОтветитьThere is no extra rupee. The balance column doesn't need to add up to 50. I could spend 1 rupee 50 times in a row, and the balance column would be 49 + 48 + 47... and so on, a much bigger number than 50. Or I could immediately spend all 50 rupees at once and have the balance column add up to 0. Only the spend column needs to add up to 50.
ОтветитьI stink at these and usually can't figure them out, so I was extremely glad to know the real answer is "don't worry about it." Haha. I did pause the vid to ponder though, and I started down the road of numeral years verses "seasons." Take your favorite sports team and the seasons they play. From 2001 to 2009, that is NINE seasons, but subtracting 2001 from 2009 gives you EIGHT numerals. (Also, I don't even know if I'm using the word numerals correctly.)
Yet did this vid even give us an answer? Like I said I'm bad at these, so what does making a more complicated formula of 51 prove?
What if you spend the whole 50
Ответитьnot counting number like this ulta👍
ОтветитьEasiest way to "prove" (it's not a proper proof) this to anyone is to say "I have 50 dollars and I spend it one dollar at a time. If I add up the 'Balance' column, I'm going to get 49+48+47+46+45....+1 and clearly that's meaningless, right?"
Ответитьstart with $50
spend: balance:
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
0 50
sum:
0 500
OK, this one was pretty lame.
ОтветитьIf I spend 1 dollar balance is 49, if I spend second dollar balance is 48. Then I spend 48 dollars and ballance is 0. Now I spend 50 dollars but in balance I have 97! FREEE MONEY!
ОтветитьFor someone who doesn’t immediately or eventually understand how absurd it is to sum the balance column, it must be extremely puzzling wondering where the extra 1 came from.
ОтветитьIf i spend 1 rupee at the time, I will have a total sum in the balance column of 1,225... ;D
Ответитьwhy would you sum the balances 🤷♂️
ОтветитьDidn't see the answer. Sum the balance makes no sense, replace that 20 by 1, the balance goes 49 already.
ОтветитьWhy would summing a balance total anything? Spend 1 at a time. Balance is 49, 48, 47, etc. It otals nowhere near 50. Why should it.
ОтветитьBecause this is balance not your money you have. I don't see what is the point of summing up balance. If I have balance of 1000€ and spend 1€ my balance is 999€. If I sum it up the sum of balances is 1999€ but what is point of that
ОтветитьAccountant student looks at this for a moment and realises that ur not meant to add up the balance
ОтветитьThere is a town in the mountains.
You can see a sign as you drive in
Poopville
Population 332
Elevation 2,450
E͟s͟t͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟ ͟1͟9͟0͟2͟
Total 4684
Start with first entry: I spend 0, balance of fifty. Balance total of 101 now!! Where is all this money coming from?? Add the balance column in your checkbook for the past year.. wow, you're so rich. Add up the balance.. oh wait, that's meaningless and apples to oranges with the spending column. Doh.
ОтветитьThe question I had was: why is he adding up the balance? Then immedialety: How did the "puzzle" creator come up with the clever numbers? After that: how many people make this kind of mistake every single day?
ОтветитьHere’s a variation of this that troubled me for an evening as a kid until I figured out it was just nonsense math:
A father made his boy sit at his shop selling bags one slow afternoon. The boy sold 3 bags to 3 customers for $10 each for a total of $30. When he reported that to his dad, the dad said 3 bags only cost $25 total, so he should return $5 back to those 3 customers. The boy didn’t know how to break a $5 among 3, so he gave them each back $1 and pocketed the remaining $2. Now here is the puzzle: 3 bags at $9 each is $27, and that plus $2 in the boy’s pocket is $29, so where did the remaining dollar go?
When you spent all Rs 50 where will be balance with you. so you have 0 because you spent 50. Add only spent amounts. And then tally with 50.
ОтветитьThe toughest question for me that's arising from this problem is why anybody would even add the balance column, let alone expect it to match the original amount.
ОтветитьWhy would anyone add up the balance?
ОтветитьNo idiots tally "BALANCE".. 😊
