What actually was Fallout 76's main story? (Fallout 76 Story Recap)

The story is basically covid from 2020 before it happened where an infected bat virus got loose from a laboratory thanks to deep State secret society establishment politicians Illuminati AKA enclave

I recently started playing 76 and really like it.
As weird as it sounds I'd love to someday have the option to play offline with the game set to before the wastelander's update. I wouldn't mind playing the early content with the wasteland empty like it was before settlers came back to Virginia.

Did they change the story??…I recently restarted the game on my PC (first play through was Xbox 2019) & i don’t remember any human NPCs being there as early as they are now

Bethesda made mistake after mistake, they deserve to be Microsoft's simp company for what they did.

the responders, free state, bos, and their fall to the scorched is heartbreaking.

I think that after Fallout NV's Lonesome Road and Fallout 4's Far Harbor, Fallout 76 has the 3rd best storyline.

I like how it Strays away from the typical faction vs faction fallout story, gives it more variety (although they went back to their old roots with wastelanders)

Well to me it was the wastelanders story line. I completed it thinking it was the main story. I am now doing the main story

This is the only thing that's preventing me from playing the game now that it's been somewhat fixed. I'm a huge Fallout fan, but the lack of story content and drastic changes to VATS really turned me off from this game.

The story is simple. It's the story of a vault dweller who went out in the world to set up a farm and gather fusion cores.

Never find the Overseer? She's in Sutton? or did I miss you mentioning that? I stumbled on her in her home when I was level 10 and she asked me to come back when I was level 20. She also says, where have you been? you mention you've just come out of the Vault and she says, what were you doing? It's been months!

Anyone else watch this because they beat the game, but had no idea they beat the game.

Thanks for sharing the story with us. Played this game a little at launch and it was awful. Never gone back and the story does not inspire me to try this game again. Fallout was one of my favourite franchises but it has been killed for me. I thought the Fallout 4 story was terrible and this story sounds only a fraction better. I would not buy another fallout game. I hope they don't ruin the Elder scrolls series next.....

In a way, this is the dark side of nu Bethesda's "environmental storytelling"--if every interesting story is told simply through its environments, there is little agency for the player. To be fair this isn't endemic to the structure of their games, if you look back at Daggerfall which had the deepest mechanics of the series and the largest world (yeah yeah procedurally generated, blah blah) it also had the most choices impacting things, with a ridiculous number of endings. So much so they had to create a silly in-game explanation for why all of that was ignored in Morrowind and later (the "Dragonbreak" or "Warp in the West"). I think at the end it's just production management and laziness, take your pick of which is more the real reason.

I think I know why I dislike fallout 76 (yeah I bought the game) it had such potential,I believed it had a good concept but the story wasn’t done to well and the game kinda didn’t match the players

I would describe the plot as reading the fallout wiki and then doing the very last quest
