He wanted to come with me on the Adrestia so I said "iite"
ОтветитьHis stories have morals . I listened to the audio book with some of his stories just the other day and was very impressed.
ОтветитьStrangely, video ignores the 700 Thespiae who fought and died alongside Spartans. Likewise, Xerxes troops retreated from Greece a year after Salamis naval battle, when they were defeated , mostly because of Spartans, at Plataea.
ОтветитьI just found a book on the side of rode!
Account of Egypt
Herodotus would have liked this
A cause for a certain historic event cant be really known tho. It is just a speculation, based on confirmation bias. Real life is much more messed up, to assign cause effect make it easier to remember or understand, as it giving us an illusion of order.
Heck, history is literally a pseudoscience and untested. See, with natural science we can deduce causal relation with repeated experiment/ observation. History by definition cant be tested by experiment.
It would be weird, unnerving, yet very funny if literally everything Herodotus said was true.
ОтветитьHerodotus was a lier.

ОтветитьThere's so much to learn, and many unknowns in our horizon.

ОтветитьMy cousin spoke to this guy who had a dream about this event let me tell you how it happened.
ОтветитьNarrator says Herodotus is from 5 BCE? I thought Herodotus is from the Mid 400s BCE and The Histories was published in 430 BCE?
Ответить.
ОтветитьIt’s actually Thucydides. Historians don’t like to claim Herodotus since he doesn’t actually use anything resembling historical analysis, and he also lied a great deal throughout his works. his works also read more like myths and philosophies than histories.
ОтветитьSadly, nowadays historical events are not viewed in both sides but are molded to the advantage of the teller.
ОтветитьNot history more like journalism or simply research. Perhaps father of scholarship. History had been documented outside of greek world for thousands of years before him that doesnt involve religious fairy tales

TED-Ed your videos are so good ! its so nice i watch i ton of them
ОтветитьI think, to avoiding inaccuracies, I have to study other sciences like paleontology while I'm studying history. Understanding the true past is understanding the whole word.
ОтветитьHerodotus wasn't perfect but nonetheless he paved the way to improve how we write history

ОтветитьHi Ms..Tschupp
ОтветитьOkay, a Marmut that accidentally digging gold sound like a good myth
ОтветитьI feel like Greece should be more a part of the Middle East rather than Europe.
ОтветитьHerodotus was not the first historian or even Greek historian - that title goes to Hecataeus of Miletus (550 BCE - 476 BCE). He was also a geographer and improved on the map of Anaximander (610 BCE - 546 BCE) who also lived in Miletus, the first writer to mention the Greco-Persian Wars and the first writer to mention the Celtic and Illyrian peoples. He did trust Homer (8th century BCE) as a genuine historical source though.
Ответитьand sometimes the father of lies
ОтветитьNew Archaeological Find in Egypt at a Shipwreck once again proves Herodotus RIGHT 🙌🏻
ОтветитьReady great video!
ОтветитьMy fathers side of my family is from Bodrum, Turkey, which is modern day Halicarnassus or Halikarnas in Turkish. I was raised in New Zealand, which is a very new country and has very limited history. It makes me brim with pride knowing that my ancestors have a rich and long spanning history that I am able to learn about today because of great men like Herodotus.
