IS FREE BLACKMAGIC Camera App BETTER than FILMIC PRO?

Simple question can you take a still photo with the black magic camera app for iphone mine only does video if i cant take a photo with it its usless to me

I haven't got one single subscription app on my phone, nor will I ever. I'm happy to pay a fair one time purchase fee. The same goes for PS on my PC, I've stopped using it.

Wonderful content!! I just have one question: the videos that come out of this app (Blackmagic camera) can still be edited as a regular iPhone video? Like for example the focus. If I record a video in this app can I change the focus later on?

How did you get 120fps? No matter what settings I change, I’m stuck at 60fps max.

Do you need to set the setting in native 15 pro max like exposure and iso or do black magic does have have their own setting parameter and won’t affect by camera native setting?

Ahoj! I just tried it on an older 4th gen iPad pro, and it really surprised me. Using this app in combination with the free Davinci Resolve video editing app just made my iPad in to my new portable recording setup. On a newer iPhone or iPad, one could capture in ProRes RAW to an internal or external SSD really taking it to the next level. My opinion is that even of Filmic Pro had not gone to a subscription model, BlackMagic Design has a reputation of being not just a solid company, but one that releases a lot of updates on a regular basis and always comes out with something exciting. They'll eventually catch-up and pass Filmic in features and performance just like they did with Adobe's Premiere Pro and Final Cut NLEs.

Recently I discover your channel and I love it. I use Blackmagic Design Camera because it gives me HDR Timelapse that other apps couldn't offer, to achieve HDR this you only need to set the Color Space option as Rec.2020, the resulting file has the same profile as the native iPhone app which is: BT.2020 HLG (9-18-9)

I can still use the Filmic Pro legacy app for free, so I'll stick to it. It has something I use a lot that BM doesn't offer: mirroring and controlling from another iPhone.

At this point, the apps and cameras are so good, the final product now depends on your creativity.

I can't answer this question becuase since filmic pro went subscription I haven't been able to open the version of it I paid for a few years ago, its a endless loop of opening one app that sends you back to the other app.

Until Black Magic puts gimbals into the app, I think Filmica Pro will still be the best. obviously black magic is a really nice application although it only exists for iOS unfortunately

I'll NEVER give another dime to Filmic... I paid $130 for the app before they went subscription based... 3 months later they went Sub based and now the legacy app won't load without some kind of connect to the internet or cell data and it always loads ads for buy the subscription version before it...

so when I'm out in the desert or in the mountains and there's no cell service, the app won't open at all. That's their way of saying "F you, pay the subscription fee".

They didn't bother to grandfather in those who paid for the legacy app. That's pure shyster trash from them and speaks VOLUMES regarding how badly they're going to FK people the next time around.

I've run my business for 3 decades and have been developing apps for decades, and never once have I ever done ANYTHING so scummy to people.

You should mention upfront that you need at least an iPhoneXS or newer for this app to work due to the A12 chip.

"Always set the lowest ISO for the best quality" - debatable. Dynamic range for iPhones is highes ~1200 ISO.

Nobody has an issue that this company is called “black magic”… I mean with all the things going on in the world… If you want to play with something called black magic… Be my guest, but be ready for the spiritual nuances that come with it

Filmic Pro Remote control is the main feature I use that Blackmagic doesn't have. As I need to record myself, I use an iPad as a monitor and remote control. It saves A LOT of time to be able to control everything and see myself in a big screen.
Also, there is no option in Blackmagic to choose from Global Tone Mapping or Local Tone Mapping. It is (I guess) by default at local tone mapping (which is what the native camera app uses). I prefer to use global tone mapping as it gives a look closer to what I want most part of the times, not overprocessing darker or brighter areas.

filmic pro you can disable latency preview while cinematic stabilization, in interface menu :) no lag but have to active every time open app...

Filmicpro did not work well with my Motorola mobile. I much prefer Open Camera app. I wonder when BlackMagic app will be available for android?

I have a silly question. Anyone else having issues with orientation not changing when you rotate phone. I can’t get it to change to landscape.

Hi there....I want to use this black magic app with my iphone 15 pro max for the times when I can't use my Sony FX30...I like that I can record Pro Res LT to my Samsung SSD...question...if I wanted to use a gimbal like the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 or the Insta 360 Flow...can I use this app? those gimbals have their own apps...I'm not too familiar with gimbals for smartphones...thanks so much

For me it makes jittering on Hohem M6 (the stabilisation is off) using Iphone 12 max pro, other apps do perform flawlessly, I might have missed some option to tick but that's how it is.

Just got a 15 Pro Max, and while searching for new features, stumbled across your video.
Coming from a 12 Pro Max. the difference is amazing!
I've used Filmic Pro for years, and was one of the people who paid for it.
When they changed to a subscription-based service, they gave us the dumbest "Grandfathered" version, that doesn't work anymore...
I'll be downloading this app, and giving it a try.
I mainly use these apps for manual control, especially WB and exposure, as well as codec and framerates.
I noticed that the iPhone camera app has a WB lock, which is great, but they also restrict other settings, which Filmic Pro gave me the choices I needed.
BLACK MAGIC gives me these controls, and if it's stable, I'll be dumping Filmic Pro off at the orphanage...

When recording something and switching cameras during the recording on my iPhone 13 Pro, I've noticed that the Front camera footage is right-side up but the rear camera footage is upside down. But, it appears right-side up in the app while filming. 🤷🏻
