Modi surname remark: Surat court rejects Rahul's plea for stay on conviction in defamation case

Surat court rejected Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's plea for stay on conviction in defamation case. On March 23, Surat court in Gujarat convicted Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail. Following his conviction, he was disqualification as Lok Sabha member from the date of the verdict. The court granted bail to Gandhi and allowed him to appeal to a higher court in a month. On April 3, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed an appeal in the sessions court seeking a stay on the sentence awarded by the lower court and challenging the lower court's decision.
