Mclean, the original inventor, went on to make honking great big autocannon using this principle. They were made in 37mmLong, 47mm and a huge 57mm one no one bought that was the size of a long truck bed.
The Russians loved the 'Maklen Gun' as they called it, especially as it had twice the power of the 37mm guns used by most other land forces and used them extensively. They were still soldiering on in The Second World War.

The Japanese used Lewis guns in 7.7mm rimmed (.303 British)
