Start the video by telling us WHO THE HELL YOU ARE, and WHY WE SHOULD CARE ABOUT YOUR OPINION ON ANYTHING! START with that, yeah?

You better learn skills that AI can’t do… better learn a trade or a profession in something like healthcare etc.

IMO, worst advice ever. I feel really bad for people who do not have good career mentors who then stumble on these videos and have zero context on the influencer motivations or personal history or agenda.

Coding skills for a software engineer is like a running skill for a soccer/football/basketball player, or math skills for a physicist.

It might look like the minor and "passive" activity for the work processes and challenges, but it is fundamental and it allows you to:
- Quickly, efficiently and solidly implement your ideas/solutions/fixes;
- Understand products/services you are developing on the higher level, which may allow you to come up with more creative thoughts about them;
- Much faster to learn and understand new technologies;
- Create a "connection" with other engineers easier, faster and with more "quality".

Dude as someone who is about to finish their undergrad next year and was brought up to believe I'll have a bright future cause I had good grades for programming in high school, the closer I get to actually having to enter the job market of this industry to more worried I get. It's getting more and more competitive out there. Every entry level job listing I see has requirements I just don't meet. There are no internships where I live. Dude what if i just don't have what it takes. What if I'm just fucked. What if I just wasted 4 years of my life getting this degree.

This attitude only holds if you have the same motivations as the author. Personally, I've been kind of glad to see the gold rush come to an end and for the field not to be filled with people who don't love the craft and were only here because they were told it was a good way to make money.

Who cares if people think coding is cool? Who cares about building cool shit. If you don’t own your own company then you are building someone else’s dream just like people in every other profession.

Everyone has to work cause every one has to eat.

It’s time to stop thinking about coding about anything else other than a job. Just like a doctor who especializes in small surgery and removes weird shit from people every day, they don’t romanticize their job. They just accept it. Coders need to do the same. Stop romantacizing it.

It’s a job. That’s it.

It still pays well and is easier than being a roofer and fast food worker. So it is worth pursuing.

You want higher level fulfillment then work on your own little projects or get a hobby.

Other than that, see it for what it is. A job that still pays well. That’s it. No company is your friend, nor your family.

As long as you don’t own your own company then you are working on someone else’s vision.

So make hay while the sun shines.

I've been coding (mostly embedded in C) my entire career and now I'm getting close to retire. If you are bored after 5 years wait until you are 60. I've had ups and downs but the C language has been good to me. But as you age it gets harder to enjoy the craft, you just end up doing the same crap over with the same issues from the hw chain (nothing ever improves). It's better than other gigs but I wished I could do more physical work.
