Fixing & Avoiding Warped Die Cutting Plates

Oh, Jennifer, I love how you call your husband "nerd"! I don't know about the other people, but I sense so much love in there! :P We are a nerd family too so I get you 100%! Aren't nerd husbands the best? hahaha at least that's what I think! Thank you for the video! Sadly, my cutting plates got warped from the first use, not sure what i did wrong. now i have to fix them because they are bending my dies.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Most frustrating day crafting yesterday, with my gemeni warped plates, and new plates. Love this machine but yesterday was a challenge, I ordered the double sided plates, and will try the hot water method.
You would know the best remedy!

whats the differemnce between a clear cutting plate and a double sided cutting plate?

I purchased the double sided Gemini plates and set them up as you did. My die cut into the new dbl sided plate deeper than I thought it would. Is that normal? It might save the clear plates but I’m thinking I’d go through the double sided ones quickly?

I just tried the boiling water cure for a big shot purple cutting plate and a clear plate. I followed the directions exactly and it did not work. The plates had been used as recommended and were only lightly used when they warped and bubbled . No amount of heat or pressure seeme to make a diffeence. Not happy with Sissix or the plates. I read through many of the comments and found others who had the same problem with Sissix. I also sent an e-mail to Sissix about the problems. Not happy with the quality of the cutting plates and unsure of what to do next. I know products wear out but I am not an intensive crafter. I just like to make a hand made card here and there. Is it time to cut my losses and head back to the dollar store?

I just started using die cutting stencils & love it! I have a very small "Craft Buddy" machine and the plates warped - SO I am so happy to have found your video and will try to unwarp my plates ASAP!! You & your husband explained everything in laymen-nerd terms - AWESOME!! Thank you both!

Hello Jennifer, I knew you would have the answer to my warped cutting plate question! I fixed it right and away and now they look are work wonderfully. I enjoyed your nerdy husband and it's great to learn something new. I will never put plastics into an oven.

I use the white cutting plate & the raspberry plate from my old grand calibur - works like a charm

So, I am new to die cutting. I didn't know if I was going to like it or not so all I did was buy the Gemini Mini. The shim that comes with it is together, not just one piece, like the ones you're showing in the video so of course it is smaller colleges for the Gemini Mini my question is, will this same technique work on that small shim as it's doing on these large ones? 💜

I’ve heard someone suggest a thin layer of PVC, the sort of thing they make packaging for a duvet or pillow, that thick shiny stuff. It takes the cut and protects the plate. Not sure whether it also prevents warping

My Magic Mat was warped and instead of using a heat gun to flatten it out, I put it in the oven on the lowest setting (170) for 5 min. and take it out and put on marble countertop to cool. Have done this multiple times and it still works great

I’m brand new to die cutting without a cricut and my first project with an embossing folder resulted in me warping my brand new plate and folder. This is so helpful thank you so much!!!!!

I taped my gemini plates to my double sided plates back when you did your first video about doing this. I have had to redo the tape twice since then, but it has probably been at least a year or more since I first taped them. I have to say this has definitely worked!! CC's Gemini II has a roller that maintains pressure through the whole length of the roller, which is suppose to prevent some of the warping. Will you ask your resident nerd to comment regarding the possibility about this helping to prevent warping, or is it strictly caused by thecontinued cutsinto the plastic plates that weakens the structure of the plastic causing the warping.thank you for all your tips!

Do you have a fix for warped embossing folders?

I had 2 very badly warped clear plates and a warped shim. I tried your system but gave them much less time, I could actually see them levelling out, but it still worked 😊 thank you for the idea.

Thanks for this video and the explanation from your husband, I just bought a platinum 6 and it looks like my plate is already starting to warp after only a few cuts and I am guessing that is normal. But I have a way to fix it now when it gets bad. :)

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have a mini die cut machine that I can't buy replacement cutting plates for and this technique worked so well to fix my cutting plates.

I use the advertising cards that come in the mail. Many have a coating that adds just that little bit of thickness for a good cut. The thin kitchen cutting mats from the dollar store work well too.

I excitedly tried this and....all it did was waste my time, effort, and water. :( Not one bit of change with a sizzix plate. So disappointing.

Do the double side plates work with Sizzix to.

Don't waste your time with boiling water as it doesn't work. I've tried it multiple times with plenty of weight. Still got the same warped plate I started with. It also doesn't do anything to clean a plate of the paper cutting a die leaves bhind.

Great video. *Notice on the first plate dies were only put in the center of the plate. Plopping dies always in the center will cause more warping. Dies should be put all over the plate — edges, top, bottom, everywhere. That’s something Crafters Companion explains in a video that I can’t find.

Hi Jennifer , I’ve just tried this and it worked but unfortunately it’s a bit like my shape at the moment it shrunk and went wider so now I don’t have a plate😢 this also happened when I did try the oven method before I listened to your resident Nerd ( won’t do that again ) where am I going wrong ?

Does your boiling water method work for magnetic plates?

I've tried it a number of times, on different mats and none of them are flattening. I don't know what to do.
