NOTE: The top note at the end of the song is a rare example of an option up being preserved on a cast album. If you want to hear how the last note is supposed to sound, check out the NEWSIES LIVE film. (John Dossett does a high A for this recording; when I saw it live, and on the film, it was a F# slide down to D. I prefer the latter as it’s quite vaudevillian.)
ОтветитьPullitzer: sings an A4
Me: hold my beer, goes up to a D5
I played Davey so fun!!!!
ОтветитьThis is such a good villain song tho. Love it
ОтветитьWOTC looking awfully familiar to this
Ответитьtechnically speaking, mr. pulitzer here is choosing bankruptcy because the newsies won't buy papers, strike or not. he's an idiot. 😂😂🤣🤣
ОтветитьNunzio knows, when
He's cutting my hair
Trim a bit here and then
Trim a bit there
Just a modest adjustment
Can fatten the bottom line
Shaving is tricky: the razor
Should float
Shave me too close and you
May slit my throat
Its the simplest solutions
That bolster the bottom line
Give me a week and
I'll train them to be
Like an army that's
Marching to war
Proud of themselves and so
Grateful to me
They'll be begging to pay even more!
When there's dirt
On our shoes, boys
For god's sake, relax!
Why throw them out?
All we need is some wax
Listen well to these barbershop lessons
For they'll see you through
And the power of the press
Yes! once again is mine!
The price for the newsies goes up in the morning!
Just a few common cents
Gents, that's the bottom line!
John Dossett's not the only baritone that can go above his range...
James Barbour (hit a B5 in the song "Who Am I" while playing Jean Valjean in Les Mis)
Norm Lewis (went up an octave higher at the end of "Javert's Suicide")
I have a feeling that Barbour and Lewis are also perfect choices for Pulitzer.
OK but why is no one talking about those harmonies at the end?!!
ОтветитьWhy does this song make me feel tired?
ОтветитьMy high school just finished filming this for the play
ОтветитьPulitzer: just a few common sense gents that’s the bottom line.
Hannah: 👁👄👁
They say the price of my newspaper isn't a price they're willing to pay.
ОтветитьWario's theme.
ОтветитьIs it bad that I think this is a good villain song?
ОтветитьAnyone else getting King George vibes?
ОтветитьThis song reminds me of Wario, for some reason.
ОтветитьThe American King George 3
ОтветитьI saw him in person The guy who is Pulitzer in a local play
ОтветитьIts GEnius
Me:.........
Also me: yeah buddy you gotta try harder
Funny, he said he will make an army out of the newsies, and he did
ОтветитьIf you know Urinetown, you know who I’m thinking about when I hear this song. :3
Ответить“They’ll be begging to pay even more!”
Jack: I’m aboutta end this mans whole career
I get Callahan vibes. Beautiful voice, nasty piece of work
Ответитьam i the only one who hates this song? i feel like they really phoned it in compared to the rest of the soundtrack
ОтветитьI'm a Bass/Baritone, about to play this part for my highschool production. That A4 is the stuff of nightmares.
ОтветитьI played Pulitzer in my community theater. Definitely the best theatre experience I have ever had thus far!
ОтветитьI play Pulitzer this January
ОтветитьPulitzer:”Shaving is tricky the razor should float”
Me “ I don’t want shaved ice I want a rootbeer float”
King George? Is that you?
ОтветитьThis isn't the original Pulitzer. At least I don't think it is..
ОтветитьI have to sing this for a school musical because I got his part
ОтветитьThis is honestly my favorite one not gonna lie
Ответить[Pulitzer:]
Gentlemen, we need to sell more papers. There's an answer right before your eyes, but you're just not thinking this through
Nunzio knows, when
He's cutting my hair
Trim a bit here and then
Trim a bit there
Just a modest adjustment
Can fatten the bottom line
[Bunsen:]
What if we cut back personnel?
[Seitz:]
How about a few salary trims?
[Bunsen:]
We could lower the price of the paper
[Pulitzer:]
Bankrupting me even faster! let me try again
Shaving is tricky: the razor
Should float
Shave me too close and you
May slit my throat
Its the simplest solutions
That bolster the bottom line
[Bunsen:]
I've got it! if we charge the newsies sixty cents per hundred instead of fifty
[Seitz:]
They'd have to sell ten more papers just to earn the same amount as always
[Pulitzer:]
My thought exactly. It's genius
[Hannah:]
It's gonna be awfully rough on those children
[Pulitzer:]
Nonsense, they'll be learning a real life lesson in economics. I couldn't offer them a better education if they were my own
Give me a week and
I'll train them to be
Like an army that's
Marching to war
Proud of themselves and so
Grateful to me
They'll be begging to pay even more!
When there's dirt
On our shoes, boys
For god's sake, relax!
Why throw them out?
All we need is some wax
Listen well to these barbershop lessons
For they'll see you through
[Employees:]
When you're stuck in the muck you'll be fine
You'll erase any trace of decline
[Seitz:]
With a trim
[Hannah:]
And a snip
[Bunsen:]
And a shine!
[Pulitzer:]
And the power of the press
Yes! once again is mine!
The price for the newsies goes up in the morning!
Just a few common cents
Gents, that's the bottom line!
[Employees:]
Every new outcome
It's income for you
Thanks to that bottom line!
yoooo i got Pulitzer for our school musical! so hyped
ОтветитьCant wait to do this in school
ОтветитьWhy did they say this role is a baritone... then he belts out a freaking A4 at the end
NOT COOL
Im playing Pulitzer this summer! I am so excited, and I really like this song!
ОтветитьPulitzer: they’ll be begging me to pay even more
Jack: We will not stand for this!
“ shave me too close and you might slit my throat. “
Sweeney, is that you?
I first watched this musical in theatre class and now I'm obsessed
Ответить"Shave me too close and you may slit my throat"- SWEENEY TODD MUCH??
ОтветитьWow I've gotten so used to the actor's voice in the filmed version that I got confused when it didn't sound right at first 😂
