This Game Gave Me Thalassophobia (And I'm okay with that)

i never felt fear from anything in the game and i dont know why . Fun fact right before i finished the game and built the rocket i killed the sea dragon with a knife.

Did anyone else jump to the ceiling when they heard the reaper went from quiet and distant to RIGHT FUCKING BEHIND YOU??!!

I know what you mean about the experience. The first time I entered a seamoth and heard "Welcome aboard Captain" it felt like I had just conquered the world. "That's right 4546B, I am the captain now". But if you describe it to someone who hasn't played it they'll just look at you wondering if you're ok.

I keep hoping the writer, Tom Jubert, will pop up on another game but I don't think anything has come out with his name on it. 😭

Good thing about leviathains is that if you kill one it wont respawn, in my world iv hunted every leviathan species to extinction exepting the void ghosts and the see emperors

Fun fact. After some time being released, the sea emperor babies grow up into juveniles. You can even visit them. They are located in the Northern Blood Kelp Forest, Grand Reef, Crag Field, Mountains and Dunes. Despite being only juveniles, they are MASSIVE…

There's nothing like the first blind playthrough of subnautica. I was a bit late to the party, picking it up over the summer, luckily I didn't watch anything regarding it before hand. I was not prepared. Every time I had to go deeper, the dread was almost crippling. Any time I finally got comfortable with an area, there'd be that distant roar. Building the escape ship then being told I would get a bill for the use of the equipment that I built... all of it. So terrifying.

I actually watched a bit of below zero and wanted to buy it, but my dad accidentally bought the original game. Best mistake ever! I ended up loving subnautica soooo much. It's now one of my favorite games ever. Subnautica is genius!

I was expecting just a review video talking on about the game on the surface, but you dived into deep of it! Amazing!

For me I found a reflex that crashed

On my first full play through, I beat the game only using the prawn suit and seamoth. I built the Cyclops, but I hated moving it, so it stayed parked in front of my actual base on the edge of one of the mushroom forests. Lol.

Games like this are why my friends always ask me to stream what I'm playing discord. They always get an absolute kick from my reactions, because once a game scares me, you can trust that it'll make me jumpy for the rest of the game. I have a terrible case of kenophobia, and this ends up turning a huge chunk of open world games into horror games for me. I'm talking about random wild life encounters in Far Cry making the game borderline unplayable for me lmao

As somone who has Thalassophobia. Subnautica is one of the only games that makes me LIKE and DISLIKE the sea .

This video and this game helped make me put so much effort into avoiding spoilers about a game. Looking back now I really lost something with my first playthrough when I already watched someone else play it before I did. And to the games credit I still enjoyed it but not as much. It took me till Inscryption to nail it in for me unfortunately. I love you subnautica, I hope I will always be near a copy of it.

I just got done playing it recently and loved it.

At one point in time I got so annoyed with the reapers that I spent 2 hours tracking down and successfully killing three out of pure spite

When I played through Subnautica my first time, I had absolutely no idea what to do.
The game had been bought for me by my father, as I had continuously asked for it after watching my older brother play.
Of course, when I first played, my brother was watching. As any other older brother, he would make fun of me when I got scared... And oh boy, when I saw the Reaper Leviathan for the first time, I quickly shut off the game, and my brother was hooting and hollering; laughing like a donkey.
Man, times surely were simpler back then... Good to reminisce, I suppose.

This video also explains why multiplayer was a bad idea for Subnautica as the feeling of being alone would vanish and you & the bois could just say "Oh cool a reaper" And gang up on it also removing the fear aspect, ruining the game

I went into Subnautica knowing everything. I am that type of dude; change spook me.

While playing I realised I had some deep fears of the ocean and deeper water.

I did not make it out of the shallows. I barely made it to the Kelp Forrest. That is how scared I was.

You never mentioned the most dangerous enemies. The fucking warpers who can literally teleport you out a seamoth and than teleport you into the void

The alien base never looked more like a gun than it does today, but when first added to the game it always took the gun shape it has when transformed. You can see what it first looked like in episode 40 of Markiplier's playthrough of the game.

I remember when I first saw the Quarantine Enforcement Platform start moving, I just thought "Oh fuck that's an anti-airship rifle... OH FUCK THAT'S AN ANTI-AIRSHIP RIFLE!"

if i could add anything to this game, it would be the same ability to pet/comfort the mama sea emperor. i love her with my whole heart.

If you think this game is amazing, wait till you play hollow knight
