I've spent a bit of time in Reaper on Windows playing with midi, Kenny Gioia over on Reaper Mania makes it easy.

I don't need your steeenking meeedi files, senor. Oh, wait, midi files? Sorry, pardon my rudeness and racism. Thanks for the tip. Think I'll go put on my midi dress now from the early 70s. Hep. Just slipped it on. Comes up to the mid-calf, hence the term "midi" dress.

I use Chordpulse in Windows to create some backing tracks I that I export in MIDI (no other option). A free CNET MIDI to MP3 player converter and it's portable enough for me to use. Cool Apple options!

The way you pronounce midi is killing Me smalls!

Works the same way in Cubase, you can also reassign MIDI tracks as instrument tracks if you have instrument plugins.
