something similar happened to me, I had a normal life until one day I reached a point where I had to choose one of two paths in my destiny, the options were 1. "to declare my love for my best friend (a girl) who at the same time was my crush" and 2. "coming out of the closet and start my gender transition". Tbh, I don't think there's nothing transphobic about this story. But deadnaming and misgendering should obviously stop when you know about someone's trans/nonbinary identity. I am not sure if the main character of this story did for sure, until quite late in story. So I don't see it as much of a problem, I guess. Maybe. But considering that it is a STORY, misgendering seems deliberate. So idk, maybe it indeed is problematic.
